Nissan, eager to join the ranks of gas-saving hybrids, unveiled a prototype of the 2007 altima hybrid in San Fran, with plans to launch the sedan in 2006.
The Altima hybrid features a combo of nissans four cylinder gasoline engine and new electric-hybrid components supplied by Toyota. Nissan and Toyota signed an agreement in Sep 2002 to produce 100,000 hybrid vehicles within five years.
Toyota supplies the hybrid system components of transaxle, inverter, battery, and control unit, while nissan develops the engine and vehicle adaptation. The prototype is the first completed by Nissan
