The latest Car Reliability Survey results were recently posted. The reported number of repair trips per 100 cars per year for the Nissan Altima coupe was 25, which is better than average.

A big thanks to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May, August, and November. With additional participants we could provide more precise results and include the 2009 as well.

We now have a separate results page for each model. The one for the Nissan Altima:

My 2009 has been enrolled since October! One of the first things I did when I got my car was the survey. So far so good.

We have updated results for the Altima to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 31, better than average

A big thanks to AZhitman, this forum, and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years. Especially need 2009s.

Owner of a 2009 here, too lazy to sign up.

All I have to say is that the reliability of my 09 = utter s***.

Dropping that here without any of the details...well, not that we weren't warned by the first sentence

More participants remain needed, especially for the 2009.

There are plenty of lazy people in the world. Conducting this survey, I've learned things about human nature that I'd rather not know.

Luckily, there are also enough people who understand that everyone can't sit back and wait for someone else to do a job. It's not a majority, and might not be even 1/4, but enough to keep the world going.

We're always looking for more people willing to spend 2-3 minutes a year so we can provide the best reliability information. Details here:

We have updated results for the Altima to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 44, about average but not far from "better than average"

2008: 32, better than average

Given the sample sizes, the difference between these two years is not significant.

A big thanks to AZHitman, this forum, and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

Updated results again later this month.

We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon. These require larger sample sizes, so additional participants would be helpful.

We have updated results for the Altima to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 32

2008: 31

Both years are now better than average.

We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

For the 2008, the percentage with no repairs is about 65 while the percentage of lemons is less than one. These stats require more data, so we don't yet have them for other model years.

Nada-odds and Lemon-odds car reliability stats

A big thanks, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

2009: 20

2008: 27

Both are better than average.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 78 for the 2008, and the percentage of lemons is less than one. These stats require more data, so we don't yet have them for other model years.

Just enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful. Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May, with a preview for participants next month.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also, updated reliability stats this month.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.
