And the winner is…Now, if you please, a drum roll!
Numero Uno, the top Zoomie, my car of the year, is . . . the Nissan Altima Coupe.
I can hardly believe how much I enjoyed this sports coupe, or how relatively inexpensive it is for what you get.
First, the 3.5 SE model I tested is the top-line Altima with a 270-horse 3.5-liter V-6 that hooked up exceedingly well with its six-speed manual gearbox.
There's speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering that gives it a light feel, and the car clips off corners like a racer.
All this, and push-button start, for a base price of $24,890.
I haven't even mentioned its looks. The Altima reflects its pricier cousins, the sleek Infiniti G35 and G37's good looks, but for a lot less dough. This thing is easy on the eyes with a sensuous swept look that says speed!
My test car added enough to hit almost $30,000, but at the base price this is a winner in every category save one, ride. If I could change anything here I'd soften the suspension a bit. Our Wisconsin roads just aren't smooth enough for a sport suspension.
To make this even better, if you don't want to go the muscle-car route, there's a perfectly fine Altima 2.5 S with a 175-horse 4-cylinder and a starting price of $20,570.
That, my friends, in either trim, is value, fun and awesome looks all in one package
