Post

Just wanted to start a thread where people can post their knowledge and experiences about replacing the stock radio/speakers and installing subs. Anyone with good advice, instructions, or pictures would be greatly appreciated by many Versa-driving audiophiles I'm sure!

I will start off by repeating what I have already read in this forum and verified about the radio:To get to it you have to go in through the top center panel above the radio with the vents on top. The panel will come off by hand. First pull up hard on the front edge of the panel until it separates about 1 cm or so. Then grab and slide the whole panel toward you. Under there you will find some phillips screws. Undo those and DO NOT UNPLUG THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. Take the whole light out of it's spot in the dash. You can unplug the hazard button. Now you are in there. This has already been covered by a very informative member but I thought I'd adlib it to start off this thread.

Has anyone found a wiring harness that fits?Has anyone replaced the speakers yet? How did you bypass the postamps?Has anyone installed a sub enclosure yet? Did you need to drill the firewall for the power or is there a way to thread it somewhere else?Does the Versa have leads behind the dash for reverse/speed sensor/etc. for navigation systems like the Alpines and the Pioneer Avic family? Can anyone give advice on safely removing the door panels?Has anyone figured out a good place to run the wires to the rear of the car for subs, rear camera, etc?Does anyone else have any other questions about this topic?

Well, a little minor detail that you left out in the original post, handy for stereo selection.

Some cars look like they have space for a double-din unit, but they're actually single-din with an odd mount.

The Versa is NOT one of them. It is a true double-din.

(I know it was probably obvious, but hey.. I'm CAPTAIN Obvious!)

I want to put in a new stereo deck with satellite radio and iPod connections. I checked with Best Buy and Circuit City and neither does installation on the Versa yet. (I want them to install it so it's insured. I don't want my warranty voided) I was told by the guy at Best Buy that it'd be another 6 months or so before they can get a "kit" for the Versa. Now my question is, could I just walk in there and tell them that the deck is a standard double din, and they would be able to install something for me now? Or does the "kit" these stores use generally contain other things?

They're probably talking about a wiring harness. As far as I've heard they're not available yet and all you can do is splice the wires right now. A double din unit can be put in the dash easily with the stock radio bracket. Since Best Buy is a large chain, they may just have some standard kit for every model or something. I'd take it to a car audio shop if you don't want to do it yourself. They have experience with all kinds of cars so it'll mostly be nothing new to them. If someone knows what wires are what that would be a great post for this thread.
