Anyone hear this? I've read it from 3 different sources today alone, that on Oct. 30th Nissan announced that all vehicles from 2003 to present will have a 10 year, 120,000 miles warranty on the CVT, retroactive to the original date of purchase.

I've tried to find the official press release, but haven't had any luck. Can anyone help me out? If this is true, this is BIG news, and Nissan would most definately win back the loyalty of a lot of customers - 2003 Murano owners come to mind first, since they were stuck as guinnea pigs for first generation CVT's that were complete crap......

I have confirmation from the dealer (Sherwood Nissan near Edmonton Alberta are AWESOME), I quote:"I just finished talking to the service manager here and he has informed me that Nissan has extended the warranty on all CVT’s to a 10yr 200,000km warranty. As far as vehicles made in 2011- he is not sure what they are going to provide as a warranty, as they have not mentioned anything about this."

This is GREAT news, probably the biggest news I've heard since buying this vehicle. Now we can stop whining about whether or not the CVT will be reliable over the long term, Nissan has apparently grown tired of this mis-concpetion as well, and put their money where their mouth is. This proves their confidence in the CVT, and also proves they value their customers. This is also a good business move, because I'm sure they'll win back some angry customers, namely 2003 Murano owners with failed CVT's just out of the regular warranty period. But I still can't find an official announcement online.

Am I the only one who thinks this is amazing news? Come on guys, extended warranties cost thousands from the dealer, now Nissan has just decided to give all of us this for free, just because they're nice guys, gotta love that!!! No?

Lol, That's okay. I already paid for it. Plus it covers a lot of other major components too, so I'd rather have it.

By the way, is this extension apply to Nissan Canada as well. I tried googling this topic, and it was an American site that discussed this.

I was able to locate the actual letter to Nissan owners regarding the CVT warranty extension. The link follows below:

It is interesting to note that not only did they extend the warranty, they also back dated it so to speak. If you had to have your CVT worked on prior to the extension, they will reimburse you for your expenses. That's impressive.

It's nice to hear, since we've got over 100k on one and 50k on the second (and under 10k on the third). Not a bit of trouble yet from any of them, however!

Piece of MIND!! I am planning to keep it until about 200000 kms... almost there. 167000

I asked about servicing it and they said don't bother.

All good

I wonder why they said don't bother to service it? Presumably it was because the fluid was still in good shape, you must do a lot of highway driving. Hopefully it wasn't because they were too scared to touch it and screw something up in the process!!

They actually explained it that if you drove something like a Murano and you were towing alot, then they would be concerned. They could scan it and check the max temperature and life...blah blah......... In my case, I do alot of city driving but I don't push it so they were more like, don't waste you money..........

Yeah, surprising to hear that as usually you are expecting them to take you to the cleaner..lol
