I reacently purchased a 1991 nissan 300zx tt. The guy told me that it puffs some smoke out of the tail pipe. some people tell me that it's caused from the PVC being pluged. when I drive the car some times i can smell burnt oil. If any one can help please let me know thanks.

I suggest changing the PVC valve, it's cheap and eazy in most cars. If it fixes it lucky you, if not Check the oil. If you think you are burning oil pull the dipstick and check the viscosity and smell. If it looks bad change it and check it again at 500 miles if it has bad viscosity and smells bad at that point it could be a number of things. Also check for oil leaks on the ground good luck tring to see anythning in the enginbay.

Oh yeah make sure you run a synthetic. Which Means if you are running a normal oil use a blend on the next oil change and then a fully synthetic on the next. Those tt's will destroy normal oil in about half the time.

Sharjt is right on the money. The synthetic should always be ran on the z32's because they have soft main and rod bearings that are easily destroyed by contaminants.

unfortunatly the pcv's on the TT are a pain in the arse to get to, you can pull the I/C pipes to see if your turbo's are blowing any oil and you can do a compression test to see how the rings are doing, and you'r best off just replacing the pcv's they are a pain to get to but they are cheap

another friend told me that an oil catch can will help too. where do you place it. there is'nt much room under the hood. also it started to drip small amounts of oil under the car. it's in storage for now. I want to thank every one that can help. also the car only has 116 thousand and only 20 thousand miles on the motor and turbos. so the previous said. Ihope he wasn't lieing to me.

a catchcan goes in place of your pcv system, instead of recirculating airbourne oil and blowby, it filters them through a trap and vent and releases the blowby to the atmosphere, some people claim power increase with this, I think thats carp, I run one on my 240Z due to the reclocled turbo being in the way of the egr, I guess I could have relocated to another port but figured I'd give this a try

the catshcan, is to run in place of the pcv valves, you redirect the line that leads to the pcv and run it into the catchcan, then you remove and plug the pcv where it goes into the intake manifold

if the smoke is coming out of your tailpipe, it is most like the seals on the turbo have gone bad. and with the mileage you have on it is about when they start going bad.

if you dont want to make a lot of power, you could probably just buy a turbo re-build kit and rebuild your stock turbos. or you could find somebody that upgraded their turbos and are selling their stock turbos in good condition. but if you want to make a lot more power (500+ hp) then there are numerous options as to what setup you could have. of course, this would be more expensive then just rebuilding/replacing stock turbos.

With the mileage thats on the car (and never trust numbers that previous owners give you without proof and paperwork) I'd suggest getting all maintence up to date and replacing needed components. I'll put up pics of catch can location and some turbo info later for you.

the "Stage 3" is pretty easy and cheap yet very rewarding, it includes: good quality intake and filter, cat back exhaust and remapped ecu with boost jets will get you to about 400 crank hpfurther tuning and add ons can get you up to about 400 at the wheel before you have to upsize the turbo's
