What spark plugs did you use? Our engines are very particular about the kind of plugs you use.

For non-turbo use: NGK PFR6B-11 or the NGK PFR6G-11

For twin turbo use: NGK PFR6B-11B

You can't usually find them at your local auto parts store, you have to order them:

Bad plugs shouldn't cause knocking though, rod knock is caused by low oil pressure. A misfire/dead cylinder is possible but not knocking.

"engine knock" could be lots of things, could be lifter tick, vtc rattle, etc. There's more probing questions like: does the knocking follow the revs, etc.

Definitely use the correct plugs as pointed out above. If you're a TT and over stock boost, SpecialtyZ recommends NGK BKR7EIX Iridium Plugs for up to like 16 PSI for the gap they come with, and the heat range. Got those on mine and got rid of some other issues, but again, shouldn't cause a dead cylinder.

Silly question, assuming you're new to the Z game. When you put your balance tube back on (which you had to remove to get to #5 and 6, you did put the bracket on the drivers side OVER the balance tube mount, and not between the balance tube and plenum right? Simple mistake gets a lot of people, which would cause a huge air leak, and other problems.
