Hi everyone, I've been putting a lot of time into reading up on cars, and a lot of thought on what I want/will last me. I'm still young, nearly 16, and need opinions/info from peers. Cars are a passion for me, driving is the best feeling I've ever had. I love it, got my permit the day I turned 15 and have put 400+ hours on the road. I really want to get into mechanics but I don't come from a mechanics family and grew up poor. I honestly don't know where to start pursuing the career and would love advice, and maybe somewhere I can get one of these beautiful 300zx's (even if it's not so beautiful when I get it, want to do senior project on a fix up) Living in Oregon, US (state above cali) if anyone knows ZXs for sale here Thanks a lot

I would look for a regional technical school with a good automotive reputation.

Start off by taking any mechanics classes offered in your school or in college when you graduate. I am currently a college student and have been tempted to enroll into the mechanics class here. They have many sponsors and seems like a really fun class. They teach the basics and slowly progress. I am in Cali so not familiar with any Z's for sale up above me.
Welcome by the way!

Thanks guys, sadly there isn't a mechanics class offered at my school or I would be taking it, I'm working on saving up around 2g to purchase a decent 300zx.

2k Should be just about there to find a Z, don't expect the best condition though. A lot of owners mistreat their Z's and its a shame to see one on craigslist trashed up. Mine happened to be a great find for $2200 but it is automatic. And how SleepyN/A mentioned, don't be afraid to work on your own car, I'm not far from your age and I used to be afraid to touch under the hood. But as problems came along, i started looking at forums and would try to make sense of the reading by look at my car at the same time. It gets very fun once you are more familiar with your car

:chuckle: Funny right there!

Seriously, welcome and as advised, get to know your Z through maintenance and repairs as much as you can- we can help a lot here as well as other sites with how-to's etc. I personally moved away from auto mechanics which I enjoyed when young, but have returned to the game in my later years once my NA became unreliable and needed lots of repairs and such until it died...and was replaced by a TT which has received a ton of work since. ALL done by me except for major engine work, and based on info and such found here and by learning as much as possible about the Z32 anywhere else I could.
Good Luck!
