I didnt cut my doors, however I did have to make a plate out of 3/8th inch MDF. It is way larger than my speakers and covers teh entire hole in the door after I removed teh factory buckets/mounts. It is large enough that I was able to get it to bend slightly as I bolted it to the door to seal. thin piece of the stick on foam insulating tape on teh back side sealed it to the door real well. if the speaker is touching the outer skin of the door you are going to have HORRIBLE audio issues with rattling and such. you could use foam on top of the mount to slightly raise the speaker from the mounts to get a little more clearance. Or make a thin trim ring to put between the speaker and bucket you bought to hold the speaker more to the inside of the car and keep it from hitting the door. Which ever way you go, dont forget to make sure it is sealed well.
