I didn't realize after 14 years of owning this car that it would be so tough to sell it. I guess you become attached to these things and that is why you are all so enthusiastic about them.

My research has led me to the following: that to replace a Single overhead Cam engine (the 89-90 version) is a real risky endeavor. Unlike mine which has 68K miles on it, the rest are all in the 200K range, probably only have parts re-built and are subject to becoming "grenades". The cost I've gotten to do this anyway ranged from a low of $1100 to over $3000.00

Two of you folks came to look at the car and both are "praying" (their words) that I sell it to them. Both were amazed at the shape of the car - both called it cherry. The seats and the interior are still impeccable and like new. The exterior is deep original black without dings. That's I guess what you get when you garage a car in Southern California and actually treat it right.

Both of the two offered me $1600.00 for the car as it sits. The first is an enthusiast who plans to put a Japanese engine and use it as his road car. The second plans to actually put $20K into it - a 380 hp engine - and use it only on the track. You guys are the enthusiasts. Who gets the car?

Nobody gets it.

You keep it. If you were only going to sell it for that, and its in as good of shape as you say...why not keep it :)

That car is worth well over 1600. I bought mine for that and it has 129k on it and needs a new driver's seat and windshield. It also needed a new clutch when i bought it, unbenounced to me until I got it home. I would definitely keep the car. If not wanting to drive it, put it in the garage and let it collect value. Sell it 30 years down the road and make a big profit.

Thanks to you both.

$1600 is still too low?

The other "complaints" the car has besides a new engine (its head gasket blew and broke the timing chain and timing chain cover) are the following:

1) New rear brakes and rotors $160.002) One or two new rear tires.3) A new AC compressor.4) A minor adjustment on the driver side door lock. A AAA guy opened up the car when I locked myself out and he did something to the electrics and the engagement.5) A tiny parking mark on the rear bumper.

Other than that the car is in primo condition.

Is $1600 USD still too little?

Oh yeah.... I paid $3500 for mine with 142k miles and it has had a hell of a lot of things go wrong since then, about a grand worth of work.

I suppose its all relative to your location. I live in WI and i just got an 89 coupe with a erebuni body kit minus the wing, but it has a blown head gasket for $1000. Swapping the sr20det next weekend if all goes well.

Dont sell your 68k mile 240sx for 1600 bucks dude. I'd give you both of my 240sxs for that car. Provided yours is in the kind of shape it should be for 68k miles. Drifting, and the 240sx are getting pretty popular, and they sure dont make 240sxs anymore, and they didnt sell a lot when they did.
