Nissan 240sx Problem any help?

Hi,

My 1992 Nissan 240sx has two problems:

1.) when I make a turn on a corner going about 20+MPH and the car turn fast, it makes this clunk, clunk, clunk noise in the back of the car. For some reason I think this is the bushing, but I'm not sure.

2.) If the car is sitting still and I turn the steering wheel all the way to the right or left, it makes this (errrr...) noise. This only happens when the car steering wheel is being turns a good 90 or + degree. In order words, while backing up and the steering wheel is turn, it makes that noise. Even sitting still and turning the steering wheel.

Can anybody help me with this? What do you think the problem is?

for your first problem, check your bushings and hubs for any play or signs of wear.

for the power steering, it soulds like your belt is getting worn out and slipping on the power steering pump, check that.

seattle, wa. thanks for the tips. I thought the steering was that problem but it also makes like a metal type of noise. Maybe the steering tie rod? I'm not sure. Any help?

check if the steering shaft is contacting any part of the motor. it shouldnt (of course unless u havent cut the recirculator of the housing of ur SR, if u have one.)

power steering noise will occur when the belt is overtensioned or wearing out. it also could mean that the pulley bearing might be getting worn due to excessive pressures in the valving, etc.

another thing most people dont know about that noise is sometimes it comes from the fan clutch being worn. my fan clutch was making that noise and realized there was too much play in it so i changed it.

and finally, yes, check the bushings.
