I have a 1996 Nissan 240sx with 130,000 on the clock. Today I was told that the tapping/clicking sound is from the timing chain which they needs replacing. They quoted $170 for the chain and $840 + tax for labor, which seems really really high. My question is this: Is it worth investing this amount in the car? and also is this a fair price?I have just replaced the radiator and various other parts, but worried that each month something else is going to go. Other than that, it is a sweet ride.Any help would be really appreciatedThanks

ya i heard that is the usual price for a timing chian job. Since its so much for labor, i really leaning on doing it myself (even though i havent done anything that big on an engine) intead of the mechanic.

This forum though and a FSM would really help me out in doing the job.

that should get you guys on the way. It's alot of work but not too hard to do a timing chain job. Expect a downtime of about a day though. Got any questions, post what issues you've encountered, but consult the FSM first.
