I recently bought a Nissan 240 SX SE and have experienced many problems with it, mainly because the dealership's service department has been lying about my car's specifics and what they have done. Anyway, one of my main concerns is whether the engine is suppose to jerk the car when I turn on the ignition. The service guy said that it was normal, but he has already lied about a bunch of other things, like how it is normal for the check engine light to come on when the car is being started if it shuts off in a few minutes (although the owners manual states that if the engine light does turn on at all, there is a problem.) Anyway, tangent aside, is the engine suppose to jerk the car when the ignition is started?

The dealer just wanted to sell you the car, so they had ulterior motives to tell you everything's normal. Does it jump when you start it in neutral? If it doesn't, then sounds like the clutch needs an adjustment or the clutch slave cylinder may be leaking. Better get it checked by a mechanic that doesn't work for the dealership that sold it to you. Good luck

I forgot the URL , but you could get them with the lemon law, hire a lawyer or something, then they'd get scared. Or take it somewhere reputable to have it diagnosed, is it under a ''warranty"?

They apply to any car with a warranty, however, if it was sold as is you're screwed.

hmm, didn't know that, I thought it was Federally mandated. Well, if you happen to be from Iowa, : ) then it applies to any vehicle that is sold with a warranty. : ) In Iowa its based on how many times it comes up for warranty.

You're thinking of Title 15, Chapter 50. Most states have laws on the books that cover these things, though. You only need to go federal on them if you can't get recourse at the state level.

Of course, 15-50 only applies to items sold with warranties, though, so SoCal is SOL in that regard.

According to Iowa's Attorney General, the lemon law there applies only to new vehicles. The warranty doesn't have anything to to with it.

There are actually three conditions that activate Iowa's lemon law:
  • the vehicle was in for repairs three times for the same problem
  • the vehicle was in for repair one time for a problem that could cause 'substantial bodily injury or death', and the problem wasn't fixed
  • the vehicle was out of service for 20 or more days (they don't need to be consecutive), and is still hosed.

well i know who im askin questions if i have a problem :ylsuper

I bought the car w/ their "60 day bumper to bumper warranty"...so I had assumed they would fix anything wrong with the car as long as it was within 60 days. But there are some stuff the service dept. is refusing to fix or replace, like a missing cigarette lighter (the guy I talked to lied and said it wasn't a cigarette lighter but an outlet for things like cell phones) and a window that rattles a lot when it's being rolled down. Do lemon laws apply to things that aren't mechanical? (I'm from Massachusetts.) Anyway, it's just making me really angry because the guy who sold it to me swore left and right that everything was going to be completely serviced and there's still so much wrong with it.:(

You didn't happen to buy your car from Bernardi or Quirk, did you?
