well on jspec.com, the thermo says *great for road racers or hot climate* well i live in chicago...my question is this, the thermostat opens up at 144 degress F...i am only strictly going for quarter mile/street racing setups...does anyone have this thermostat?

if not this one, a different one that opens up around 160 degrees?

i dont have it, but it opens at a lower temperature, i dont really see any disadvantages of that...

maybe longer warm up periods on cold days : )

If you want a lower temp thermostat, just get a 180 degree. I don't see why you would need anything lower than that.

The stock one opens a 170. How is 180 lower? A lower temperature will allow for more cooling, stablizing the operating temperature to a lower number. The Nismo unit is 160, not 144. 144 would NOT be streetable, as you'd barely have heat.

the nismo thermo does in fact open at 62 degrees C or 144 degrees F...here is a link to show the conversionhttp://www.scorpiosite69.frees...e.htm

F***. You just killed me. You're right, it's 144. That is way cold, during the winter your car would barely warm up, and heat would be non-existent. Guess I need to rethink buying one now.

I remember seeing a silly link to a Nismo t-stat costing some outrageous amount. They are all the same design, you can go to Discount Auto Parts or AutoZone and get one for ~$5. You should bring yours down there to compare to the ones they have for sale, and they offer different temps.144° is pretty low. Motors are designed to operate in a certain temperature range. Will your car still be in open-loop mode at 144°?

You should do some research before you go reccomending parts. The autozone thermos are known to be crap... any number of people on these boards will tell you AZ therms have been the cause for their cars overheating.

NISMO stuff works very well, its made by the company that made the engines(la duh), therefore, I'd think it;d be a safe bet that the engine would be out of choke mode with the thermostat in place...

I would think the major benefit to this thermostat would be for those either running the engine very, very hard (racing at high RPMs), live in evry hot climates, or have a turbo on the car that produces more heat...

I may sound like a hick V8 driver but I have gutted the thermostat on my S13. I am in Tampa and in the wall we would get one day of cold weather and the back to hot the next. Usually on the hot day my thermostat would not open and I would stare at my gauge in horror as my engine started detenating. So out can the spring and valve.I put the body back in to restrict the flow as before. This will give the coolant enough time to cool in the radiator. I have heat and it's usually above 80 here anyway.
