Hey guys...

Installed the subframe today. It's a very nice unit, well constructed, welded AND gusseted where the brace connects the two brackets. Pretty impressed for only $119--and now I REALLY have a nismo part on my car :)

Still waiting for the tension rods; they'll go on tomorrow. Then, hopefully, I'll take 'er out and see how it feels :)

Here's some pics

With the new tension rods, combined with the nismo powerbrace, blue tokico's, cross drilled rotors, s/t sway bars and red poly bushings, ASP pulley, etc, it should look sweet!

Why are you guys having such trouble finding it for $121? When I go to the above site, it's still $121....(s14)

I was thinking of painting it--but that seems kinda ricey. Plus, it'd get chipped/scrathed easily.

Put the tension rods on today.

I'm kinda weary aobut the fact that both ends were adjustable--but I adjusted them to the exact same length as the stock ones and they bolted right up. The locking nuts didn't have any washers--do any of you think it necessary to use locking washers? I torqued the nuts as tight as I could physically get them (probably 75 lb foot).

I'm still waiting for the tie-rod ends dust boots, they'll be here tomorrow. I wish I could take it out, but I can't until my exhaust is finished (hopefully mid next-week).

Anyway, here's a pic in the meantime:

I think it looks pretty nice for the underside of a car with 95k miles on it. now if I could only capture the silver aluminum crank pulley in that pic ;)

Enjoy

MarkEmark...it looks nice underneath your car, it looks clean. Did Nismo brace came with screws to replace the old rusty ones??

It's about time us s14 guys get something good going for us! Every time I'm looking for parts places ALWAYS have tons of s13 stuff and no s14 stuff.

No, the nismo brace didn't come with screws, but only two of the existing screws were rusty. I don't care THAT much about how it looks under the car--I just think it looks sweet.

One last pic---This is of the rod end boots that I purchased from http://www.bakerprecision.com because I was afraid that the exposed bearing wouldn't last as long otherwise (even though I don't drive it in the winter...maybe once a week). They took some cutting to fit--but they'll do a DAMN good job of keeping out the elements.

Scroll down; it's at the bottom.

I may take my car out today or tomorrow or so--I can run it with just the downpipe like i did before. I want to take advantage of this 5 degree weather up here--My car will run like a cheetah in this stuff --I should so some 0-60 tests while I'm at it.

Youll like the nismo power brace.

Ive been running a copied version of one on my car for a little over a year (oct 2002) now. I replicated it using my stock tension rod brackets (they were the non swiss cheese type as used in the nismo unit) and 13 dollars in parts; tubular and square steel tubing and paint :)

I fabbed it up myself (using 1" steel round tubing across the brackets and 1" square tubing welded together then into the underside of the bracket to reinforce it) and its honestly the best 13$ + time I have spent to date on my car :)

Protective Boots - what are the purpose of these??? do you need these?? also which size did you get for your (name brand?) tie rods?

The purpose of them is to seal the spherical bearing from road debris, namely sand and corrosive salt that could easily damage tarnish the bearing surface. I think the bearing is stainless steel, but the part of the tension rod that it rotates in definitely isn't. Mainly it's a precautionary measure. I guess not many people DO use them. I don't really drive my car in the winter all that much, but I got them anyway to ensure a long, happy, lubricated life of the bearing. It's cheap (relatively) insurance.

I got the "medium" size from bakerprecision.
