Nissan has long been absent from the Sport Compact segment that has been populated by the likes of the Mazdaspeed3, Subaru WRX, Volkswagen GTI, Ford Focus ST, and Honda Civic SI. The last Sentra performance model, the SE-R Spec V, was a bit of an afterthought in the segment and was removed from the lineup after its last model was produced for 2012.

With 240hp and 240lb-ft of torque via a turbocharged inline four, do you see it being a contender? Would you employ one as your daily driver? What attributes would you consider when shopping in this segment?

The competition is picking up with the new direct-injected Subaru WRX for 2015. Does this Sentra need to employ the Juke NISMO's AWD option?

You bring up an interesting point - the AWD you're talking about has a sort of torque vectoring feature does it not?

Won't happen. You're talking about changing the platform in its entirety and driving it into a different price range.

There's nothing wrong with FWD done properly, and the Sentra has a long history of being a capable performer in fwd.

If you guys remember, I attended the very first unveiling of the B17, and it's a LOT of car for the money. It's also a pretty versatile lineup, covering everything from the base entry-level economy car for the first-time buyer, to an affordable semi-luxury sedan, to a sporty, capable fun commuter (that might even see weekend autocross duty).

It's a competitive segment, but I think the Sentra is a solid contender across the board.

Greg - don't the Sentra and Rogue share the same platform, or did the separate it again? I'm getting wires crossed there.

The Rogue is the first vehicle in the US on the new Common Module Family (CMF) architecture, currently shared with the new Qashqai. So they are not on the same platform anymore...

Dude is on the money.

I was going to say that if they shared the same platform there may be a small possibility that an AWD NISMO could pop up, but it doesn't look like that would happen now, as you said.

I'm still super excited for the idea of this car. I hope it makes production.
