has anybody had any bad experience with these lately? the nismo unit is a roller bearing design instead of the solid brass stock one. from my research it is intended as a race only appilcation that requires inspection/maintenance regulary, but im also reading about owners that have gone years with no problems at all on daily driven cars.

They are not properly suited for a daily driven car.The tiny needle bearings need lubrication and do not offer and performance benefit over stock. As for the reduction in wear, if you intend on putting it in DD or even occasionally driven car without maintaining the bearing often, it will start to corrode and wear down the edge of the input shaft to the transmission.

If you search twinturbo.net, one member has posted pictures of a bearing that corroded badly.

Just get the stock brass Pilot bearing.

I'd be worried about destroying a roller bearing type when stocking the trans in, and yes bearings would need lube to keep from failing, stick with the stocker

It only reduces friction when in neutral so yeah, not worth anything IMO. The stock brass pilot bushing is just that, a pilot bushing. It just gets the trans and engine lined up upon re-install and then the brass wears quickly and really doesn't touch the input shaft at all. Don't even know why they make them really...

I really wish I would have seen this sooner. I threw one in while I had the engine out, now its in. Should I drop the transmission now and get it over with?

I wouldn't worry about it until it fails or you need to take the engine/trans out for other work. The less you keep the clutch pedal pressed down the less the bearing will spin, if you want to maximize the life of it.

Alright, thanks for the advice. I just saw a thread on another forum of a failed nismo bearing, it had me a little worried. CZP and Z1 should change theyre description though "They replaced the bronze with needle bearings making wear almost an impossibility." Atleast put something in there about race only...

Oh well, I know better now.

I have the Nismo needle bearing on both Z's and haven't had any issues. I replace, just like I would a stock bearing, every time I change the clutch. I don't see the issue here.

According to a thread on another forum. He developed a almost a chattering sound. When he went to change out his clutch the input shaft from the transmission had excessive wear where it fit into the needle bearing. Here's the link for inquiring minds: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/3/2005551

That was my main cause for concern.

I ordered one a long time ago thinking it was a cool idea. I tried being gentle getting it installed, but it seized as soon as it was in..then was when I realized it was a stupid purchase. Used the grease trick to get my slightly used bronze one out of the other engine in a couple minutes and had it in my current engine..no more worries. Also there really shouldn't ever be any "stabbing" just adjust the jack so the transmission is perfectly even around the diameter with the engine and it should go in nicely with some slight wiggling and pushing from the rear end of the transmission.

I had an oem brass one in my KA and it got completely bored out, had to chisel it out. I have no idea how it happened or if it will happen again, I was thinking that maybe the needle bearing type would hold up better. What do you guys think?
