Situation:
Sr swap in 1989 hatch. Using nismo mounts. Got the engine in first without the trans and Im glad that we did it that way. Now I know I must do something because Im not going thru this hell when is time to swap the clutch.

I spend the whole day trying to get the trans in. The engine sits too high. The top of the bell housing hits regardless of what technique used, for example:
transmission-install-tips-t318898.html
I tried this one as a last resort and I still have no clearance enough. I tried the "starter hump pointing down" technique and no dice. Well, the engine looked like it was sitting kind of high and it is. I cant even close the hood, is that bad. Even with the engine support dangling.

I checked the NIsmo mount to the OEM one and they are identical. But then is it the design of the engine...?? What are my options?
Tried different mounts or hammer the trans tunnel and cut the hood skeleton for clearance?? Sorry about the long post, I really need help on this one....

STOP!!! Something is seriously wrong with what you are doing. Double check everything. The sr is a direct swap and should fit no problem. Personally i think its way easier to put everything in all at once and i know this from experience. I say pull it and start over. something isnt right.

Thanks for the replies.
I went ahead and double check everything. The engine brackets and mounts ( insulated one is on oil filter side, heat shielded one is on exhaust side) are in the correct locations. If I was to swap engine and trans as one unit the weight factor might help to get some clearance but Im afraid the hood might still hit. Should I try to switch mounts like guys do when using them for KA's and see if it gets any lower....?

I went ahead and swap the mounts around, Im able to shut the hood now but it is still a tight fit.

I used RB25 mounts which sit a little higher than the stock sr/ka mounts and I was still able to close my hood. It IS a tight fit though. Now that you swapped the mounts, how well does your transmission fit?

Whats so special about your "RB" mounts, eh?!

I used the stock SR mounts and it all fell into place. The engine looks to have a slight tilt, but I'm PRETTY sure Nissan meant for that to be there.

I love my RB mounts. They're a LOT stiffer than the SR ones were, but they're still soft enough to not shake me to death at idle. (They were also free)

As far as the lean, they all have it.

Lol, I always said the same thing about the engine tilting since I was a kid....

It has to do with the torsional forces that are applied while the engine is revved, notice as you rev your car, the engine evens out?..... Thats so power is transmitted evenly thru the body, suspension and driveline, and to counteract the torsional twisting forces of a torquing motor... :werd:

The infamous "gansta lean" is there,,,, I did noticed that the engine moved up about an inch and half and the engine/transmission looks like is sitting further forward than before.
