Sup ppl,
It's been a while I haven't posted here. I had weird vibration in the car and have checked the tires and driveshaft. The tires have been balanced and driveshaft is within spec (24/1000 inch). That leaves me suspecting my mounts are shot so I replaced my stock engine & trans mounts with those of Nismo. For those of you who have done it, did you see the difference in terms of location of the mount studs? I did see them clearly both in the left and right engine mounts. It looks like the Nismo mounts (and stock SR I presume) place the studs so that the engine is mounted a little bit forward (1/2 an inch approx.). So far I have believed that Nismo & stock 240sx mounts are the same. They're not afterall! The Nismo trans mount seems to place the trans a bit lower. I test drove my car with new mounts. The idle seems to shake the car more, maybe because of the stiffer mounts. However, once the car ran, the new mounts smoothed out the un-explained vibration that I had. My car runs great! Much better feel and better pickup too. So for those of you who are thinking of putting SR on their 240SX, add Nismo (or SR) mounts to your list. Don't skip this point or you will have a good time trying to put the mounts. I wasted more than half a day to do it. Half a day full of scraped knuckles and arms, and of profanity too. I also replace my $24 Redline MT-90 which has been giving me bad shifts with el-cheapo $10 Coastal 75W-90 gear lube. Man, what a difference. Now my car shifts much smoother. I think that MT-90 stuff is not for 240 or SR trans. The thicker Coastal is just perfect. I notice a lot of metal shavings stuck to the drain plug magnet after draining that MT-90 stuff. Enough for rambling. I have photos for the mounts if anybody wants to see it.
