Hey everyone! First post so please be nice :)

Random question: does anyone know the origin of the "other" Nismo font for badges etc? The one that's well known is the one with the red "O". The one I'm referring to has Nismo written in cursive... both are in this pic:

Is the cursive one JDM or something? It seems official because I see it a lot of places, but don't know where it came from.

I use Identifont in those rare instances when I'm looking for a font that I don't know the name of for a project. Pull up a chair and a few beers, script font are notoriously hard to match if they aren't from the handful of commonly used ones.

My guess though, is that it's a script that someone generated from a vector program like Illustrator or Freehand, either from scratch or used a script font and then tweaked the appearance so it didn't too closely resemble the original font.

Welcome to NICO! :badger

hmm... thanks for the info. I guess what I'm more curious about is not really the font name, but I'm wondering if that other style was ever actually used on any cars for badges etc. I see that exact style in many places online so I don't think it's just some random guy's writing... you know if it was ever used officially by Nissan or any tuning company?

So after lots of research, hopefully, some of the following can be answered.. where it came from, who made it, why it was used, if it was used officially... Can anyone out there shed more light on this version of the Nismo logo?

What I did find: It was sold at the time of BCNR33 sale and is already out of print, they are extremely rare to find as emblems. So these were most likely sold as a special add-on of some sort that coincided with the sale of the R33 in the early 90's (1993+). Here's a link to the car these were reportedly sold for > https://www.nissan-global.com/EN/HERITA ... cnr33.html
I also found an original nissan nismo R33 Skyline GT-R Street Parts 1997 catalog that actually features the cursive emblem for sale!! So hopefully this confirms this logo as legitimate and not just some random style made by a random person online. There seem to be 2 versions of the logo that sold for different prices (maybe different material or size? idk I can't read in Japanese) ¥2,400 ($19.14) & ¥1,900 ($15.15). Prices reflected of those in 1997 when the catalog was released.

I've attached a few photos of the emblem in question and of the OG catalog I dug up. I also found a photo of a GT-R NISMO 400R & engine bay photo (Built for the late-1996 and 1997 model year) that features the emblem on the strut bar if you really zoom in to see it!

Anyways, hope you guys appreciate my leg work here! :mike
