Hey everyone,

My bags blew long story.

I put in new bags both driver and passenger , airbag computer hooked it all up and turned the car on and the airbag light still flashes .... I have no clue as to what can be the problem. Its a 1995 240SX. I checked fuses and unplugged the battery but the problem still arises. THe Airbag light goes from being iluminated when i first start it to flashing while the engine is on.

Anyone !!!

check the grounds. my sisters 95 altima had the flashing light for airbag go and it was just the ground. I actually asked Nistech for help on that one and he showed me the light. If that ain't it, I'd ask him.

I believe there is a self diagnostic for the Airbag system.

you can read codes on the airbag light the same way you do your ECU. procedures are as follows.1)open drivers door2)turn ignition from off to on3)press drivers door switch 5 times within 7 seconds of turning the ignition on.4)airbag warning lamp now operates in diagnosis mode.the codes aren't the same as MIL codes obviously.it just tells you wich part is having the problem.to read the code there is a 7 second "on" then a 2 second "off"then a 3 second "on" then a 2 second"off" then your code comes as .5second on&off flashes. then it repeats.so you're looking for a single digit code.not an 0505.there are only 4 indicators that can be displayed0flashes=no malfunction2flashes=drivers side airbag is out of order7flashes=diagnosis sensor is out of order8flashes=passenger airbag is out of order.

you're welcome

That's not funny. I've heard of airbags going off from bad installs and even from accidents, but sometime after the accident. Insurance adjusters who inspect autos are instructed to check the odometer from the passenger side for those that need to have the key turned on to read the mileage. At least one person was killed by an airbag when he reached across the steering wheel to put in the key to look at the mileage. It broke the guy's neck. Most body shops also sublet having airbags removed or installed due to the danger and liability risks it poses.

We do airbags quite frequently. When the Altima passenger air bag campaign came out. the first 20 or so we did We got to detinate on the work bench. Oh yea it was as fun as you think!! Nissan developed special mounts to bolt them down to detinate them. some times we used it other times we just hooked it in the vise. on those particular air bags the force generated when they come out was enough to bounce the work bench on the ground and cause the floresent lights 15ft above the bench to swing. Imagine being hit by that in an accident!!!

Even before that campaign came out we have had to detinate other airbags that had a failure under warrnety. At the last dealer I worked at we would take the airbags out into the open parking lot near our body shop and lay them on the ground face down to see how high they would go when detinated. I say about 25 or 30 ft was some of the good ones. When you see air bags from that perspective its hard to imagine sometimes how they can save your life.

By the way It only take about 3 volts[ and almost no current] to detinate an airbag. I have blown them up with 2 AA batteries in series. A double A battery is only 1.5v and is not capable of handling any real current draw. So be warned even static electricity can set one off. That is why they tell you to disconnect both battery cables and wait 10 mins to work on the system.

yeah, airbags are fun.i watched a couple guys setoff a driversside bag while it was still attached to the steering wheel.did it face down in a parking lot.it shot up pretty high.also did a passenger side bag stuffed into the crack between the windsheild and dash of a conquest.needless to say it punched a big hole in the glass.it also pushed the dash down about 2 inches.
