ok, well thi is not for my car, but my friend is doing a sr swap to, and he wants to put new pistons in it, so i know that you have to at least hone the engine before you put new pistons in so that they can seat, but if we hone the engine will we lose the nikasil or will it be ok, has anyone done this, please help

From what I understand honing will not hurt the nikasil coating, but if you bore it....-James

you can hone UP TO .008" off the bore, as this is the service limit for the nikasil. So, in reality, it would be best to hone it as little as possible. I'm not a machinist, but i suspect that .002" or so is plenty to get the new pistons and rings to seat. Do note, however, that you have to use a DIAMOND bit to hone nikasil with, not CARBIDE!! Using carbide will mess up the oiling and lubricating properties of the nikasil!!!
