A few days ago, Chad(Encryptshun) became our first "Moderator of the Month", which comes with a gift card as one of the prizes. Chad requested that we donate the money to charity instead, with it being around the holidays, and suggested a couple of different ones. I passed the word along to Greg and he of course was all for the idea, so he chose to make a donation to the "Wounded Warrior Project" in Chad's name and also matched the amount of the gift card with his own money as well.

If you're not familiar with the Wounded Warrior Project, then you can read their Mission Statement here: http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/mission.aspx or their main site can be found here: http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org

I know our economy sucks right now, but I really appreciate seeing someone take the initiative to do something like that, no matter who they are. I can say that it probably wouldn't have even crossed my mind to do that myself, even though I had already planned on making a donation to a different charity in a different way.

There are many different ways you can help someone out though, if you feel led to do so. My wife and I had an extra gift we purchased this year, so we decided to donate it to Toys For Tots, rather than returning it to the store for the money. It doesn't take much, even if it's donating $5, giving some used clothing or other items to a charitable organization, or just donating some time to a project to help others.

I'm not posting this to give everyone a guilt trip either, because I understand that times are tight, and there are a lot of people that don't really need the help. Keep in mind there are still a lot of people that really do too though. :)

Thanks again to Chad for suggesting the idea and his willingness to donate the money!

Happy Holidays Everyone! :dblthumb:

Very cool.

I'm proud (and humbled) to have Moderators on staff who put others' interests above their own. Next time you see Chad (Encryptshun) around on the boards, give him some props. :dblthumb:

You guys all know how much of a smarmy, arrogant a**hole I am most of the time, so thanks for the (undeserved) props. And because quite a few are probably thinking this already, yes it is indeed easier to give away money that was never mine to begin with. Just ask the government.

I have been fortunate through the tough economic times, and I realize that many have not been so fortunate. If I can take the microphone for a second, I'd encourage everyone to make even just a small donation to a charity you support this holiday season. No matter what your personal beliefs and no matter what you think this time of the year symbolizes, if we can have even just one month of the year where everyone gives someone else the benefit of the doubt, where everyone tries to treat those around them as though they were family rather than strangers, whever everyone tries to remember that we're a huge community, then I think we'll be better off. Everyone around you is just another you, so lay down some Golden Rule on their a**es and see what happens.

^ Can we clone this guy?

In all seriousness, ^ THIS. Everyone who frequents this forum is more fortunate than probably 90% of the world's population - Take a moment and give thanks for your good fortune (no matter from whence it came) and reach out to offer a helping hand to someone less fortunate.

Doesn't even have to be a monetary donation - Collect up some clothes you don't wear and take them to a church or the Salvation Army or give them to a friend who's on hard times. Drop a fiver on a homeless person, and instead of worrying about how they'll spend it, just say "Be safe, friend." Let someone else have the close parking space. Call your mama and tell her thanks for putting up with you. Give your old computer to a local church or school... heck, I don't know - just do something. :)

But yeah - Big props to Chad for thinking of others first. Proud to have you aboard, friend.
