Problem partially solved. One of the vacuum switches shown on the passenger side above the fender (shown 67M through 70M on that side) was removed (not sure which one) but the positive and negative cables were linked together afterwards. Now, while this connection is most likely the problem, it doesn't explain the recent events necessarily.
The wire is only being heated up under starting conditions. Once the key returns back to on, the problem stops. What does this mean? Well, over the years, this connection being in tact during start up has made something all effed up causing this starting issue. It only recently got bad because of my smaller battery that was installed, and thus longer cranking times each start up. So.... now I have to figure out what it killed :/
