Made it to Colorado!

The drive up this year was much less eventful that last year. I came up from Texas, through Oklahoma and Kansas, stopping in Wichita to visit a friend who was recetly injured in an ATV accident...and to borrow his GoPro. So, looks like we'll have three cameras on the car next week.

Made good time and only had to get through one major thunderstorm and one flat trailer tire. Much better than last year, where we had to fix two flats on the side of the road and replace all four trailer tires in Wichita Falls. This one, I noticed it was pretty low after hitting some rough road in Oklahoma, and we were able to have a shop in Wichita change it out. No problem!

Rolled into Castle Rock, CO a little after 11 last night. Crashed in the cab of the truck with the windows down a bit so I could enjoy the cool, dry Colorado air. Good sleep.

Got up this morning and met one of our sponsors, Steve Bennett, from Bennett Bail Bonds, at Steeles Tire. Steve had the Kumho's they bought for us and Steele's got them all mounted and balanced and put on the car.

Next we met up with another local sponsor, Imagewraps, and unloaded the car at his shop there in town. Shane, the owner, is also letting us borrow some space in his warehouse next week so we don't have to drag three sets of tires, my welder, and all my other junk up to the hotel room every night. I'm sure the management will be happy about that. I know I'm happy. Those 2:30AM wakeups for practice come early enough without having to make six trips to load the truck!

I'm staying with my Brother and his familey here in Greeley for the next couple nights, then Saturday I move into the Hotel in the Springs. It's good to have a visit with family to break up the stress of getting all the last minute stuff done.

Tomorrow I'm back in Castle Rock at Imagewraps. Shane and I will be going over the new design for the hood and roof, and the changes we're making to the bumper, sides and Deck lid. We'll get the car prepped for the new wrap, and by late tomorrow afternoon he'll be printing the new stuff and letting it gas out before laminating. Saturday and Sunday we wrap!

Might be doing some dirt road testing Monday...I think I know a smooth-ish road where the local po-po won't give me much trouble. :nono:

I wasn't able to make the trip to Pikes Peak this year with a friend like I wanted to. We'll plan on going next year. Hopefully you run again so I can support someone so local. Good luck!

Thanks! The run was fast, but could have been much faster. 13:19.1. We tore up the alternator belt somewhere along the way and the battery died while cooling the car on the summit. That's why we were in tow.

I know I have been slack on getting posts up during the week. I was so exhausted after each days practice, and getting ready for the next day, I just didn't get to it. Sorry about that.

We had a great result...got second place in 2WD Time Attack. Just behind a GT3 Porsche cup car that had six time PPIHC champion Jeff Zwart behind the wheel. I'll do a complete write up of the weeks activities and post it here when we get home and I recover for a few days.

Till then, thanks to all of you for your support and well wishes. It really means allot to an average joe like me.

Quick question: I've heard (read: hearsay) that sideskirts tend to help quite a bit aerodynamically, Do you plan on putting some on for version 2011?

Can't wait for the write up of the weeks happenings.

EDIT: One of my friends posted a link to a video of the porsche from your class on my facebook, looks intense!

I've heard the same. I'd like to improve the aero on the car, which includes finishing the rear, sides and underbody. Time and money will dictate what we actually get done this year.

Jeff's car was pretty awesome. The goal now is to prove that a small shop, like ours, with zero budget can still compete with the giants, and maybe even make a run at the class record.

first off great job getting 2nd!
I have a lot of respect for guys like you who can go out and risk everything on a dream, its a huge risk. good job. I'm glad you didn't end up like Victor Kuhns, i had a few friends that went up with him. it makes me sad when hard working everyday dudes like you or victor get the shaft by pikes peak like he did.
Congratulations! the car looks great this year too

First off congrats! Secondly to Ender_Zero, thanks for that vid! The only thing that would have made that vid better would have been to have a live MPH and RPM stat on the bottom. Nice work everyone! :bigthumb:

Thanks Anthony! There's no way we could have gotten it done this year without your help!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I sincerely appreciate your support and enthusiasm for our little project. We are already working hard on the plan for next year and hope to back and make a real run at Jeff's record of 11:30.

I'm hoping to have some of our on board video loaded up this weekend. I had the entire run put together and then found out that YouTube only allows videos as long as ten minutes. Like Jeff Zwart said about his video, I guess I'll just have to drive faster next year!
I'll also make a point to get some photos uploaded, as well. Since getting back from the race I have been tied up with work from my "real" job and haven't been able to spend any time getting all of you up to date.

Also, September 25th at Texas Motor Speedway, the car will either be on display at the Alamo Autosports booth, or be driffin. Maybe both. I have invited Pro Rally driver and three time Pikes Peak Open Champion Dave Carapetyan from Rally Ready Motorsports to come drive my car at this event if we can get it entered. It's an XDC event http://www.xtremedriftcircuit.com and my sponsor Alamo Autosports is one of the even sponsors. Please come see us.

See you soon!

A new video is up on YouTube. Day 2 practice from Devils Playground to the Summit. The wing cam. It's not great footage, but gives you an idea what we're doing.

Good stuff. Read all about the stuff u had to go throw last year and glad things went well this year. I race my 240 at the local hill climbs here in Vermont. Had some of my friends make it to pikes peak this year. I'm far away from making it.It takes a ton load of work to get ready and then the expense. Glad you took 2nd in class and i feel you will hit your goal of 11:30 next year and take your class. The more you run the better you will get. I'm really hoping to make a trip to Co. next year not to race just to help out some of my friends. I really miss Co. I was born and raised there and have attended the hill climbs back when i was a kid. It's a huge deal for Colorado Springs when the hill climb comes around. Well best of luck to you and hope to see you next year.

The only other on-car cam that worked was the splitter cam. I'll post that up tomorrow. We had 2 other cams, even one HD cam on the rear wing...but the battery was dead in that one, and the interior cam had the same problem. Maybe next year.

What?! I thought is was Fatman Racing, not the weight watcher rally car.

You guess placed second in class right? just behind the record setting Porsche.
