We were discussing in another thread some ways to publicize NICO more broadly.

I know many of you are "tagging" cars with NICO cards, and talking to people you meet locally.

Someone brought up the idea of buying some airtime, which I'm not opposed to, but we really can't afford *just* yet.

What I'd like to see is this: Every car enthusiast mag I know of has an Editorial section and a Readers' Rides section. I'd like our members to consider submitting a brief writeup or pics of their car to such venues.

If you'd like to participate, please list the mag you intend to write to so we can "spread the wealth". Make sure you mention the site and describe breifly (in your own words) why you love it here. I'm always glad to help with proofreading and editing, feel free to ask.

To sweeten the deal: I'll hook up anyone who gets theirs published with a kickarse NICO goodie.

Yes, great idea Greg. I'll get on that as soon as I have a car worth sending in. We have plenty of members with sweet rides that don't need to wait, so get all up in it!

I really think I'm doing my part in advertising Nico. After all it is my vehicle that is being plastered with Nico logos!

And no Mr1der I am not putting on there, "We'll do your mom!"

Sick man, just sick! LOL! :rotflmao

i think the best way to get noticed is to give members 2 nico decals each to put on their car. if yall gave them out for free id probably put one on my car. getting into a mag and actually having a write up about the site is highly unlikely to happen. not to mention if it did it would probably only happen no more than 10 times a year. and who really looks at the readers rides section? all the mags ever put in there is a bunch of rice. just being realistic. tagging cars with a card is a good way to get the word out too. or have someone in the area of car shows, auto-x, drift events, or any car related event with a BIG *** nico banner and a brief summary of what the site is all about and give out free stickers too so they will put on their car and then others will see that.

I think NICO sponsored racecars are the way to go. Drag, road racing, drifting, you name it :)

how much are stickers? if you offered free stickers to people who send in a SASE then you would get a lot of publicity for cheap.

I disagree, most people read readers rides. If they didn't, no one here woudl know what we are talking about. Since you have observed most cars in there are rice, you obviously read it, therefore, it would work.

Write to Sport Compact Car. They have a section for advertising car-oriented websites. I believe I saw a sentra forum in there a few months ago.

oh god, thats something stupid to argue about. yeah i read it alright (sarcasm). since when was looking at a picture called reading? do you really think that a mag would write about a how great a website is in the readers ride section? anyways, yeah, SCC does/did have a web page section. it would be great to get into that. but thats like a one time thing only. i think hitting up every local event with some nico members and displaying a few clean rides with nico banners and good a summary of what the site is about is the best bet. and free decals!!!!!!!!

Has NICO ever been listed there? If we have, I haven't seen it.

Doesn't NICO still sponsor Dave Colemans Rally Sentra? We should have some kind of a connection within SCC then....right?

Yeah, we do....and yeah, Dave is one of the writers for SCC. I'm also friends with Mike Kojima, another writer for SCC. I should tell them to get us in there :)

question:

is bigger really better for NICO?

I'm not saying we shouldnt do all we can to fund what we have, but in all honesty- should the sky really be the limit?

Car shows - If anyone is attending or competing in a car show, let me know 2 weeks ahead of time. If there's gonna be more than a few NICO cars there, let me know and I'll see that you get our banner to hang up (you are responsible for keeping it safe and returning it).

Racing events - If you are going to the track, to race in a sanctioned (official) event, let me know 2 weeks ahead of time, and I'll make sure you get NICO (or 240sx.org) decals.

Stickers - Send me an SASE and I'll hook it up, our address is:

NICOclub3202 West Willow AvenuePhoenix, AZ 85029

Magazines - ALL car mags are good for this. Each person pick a mag and write a letter to the editor or submit your car to Reader's Rides. If it gets in, I buy the goodies. AND you get mad props. :)

Let's get it going!!! :)

Good question Fiz. And the answer is, of course.

Size means leverage. If we're ever gonna be taken seriously by Nissan NA, then we need the numbers to show our strength. More members means more advertisers, which means more deals for you (the members) because they want to get their share of the market. Also, more members means more involvement in meets, events and shows, and more opportunities for our members to see some sponsorships and recognition for their hard work.

My goal is to have NICO sponsoring a drift car in Formula D by this time next year, as well as to have some SCCA drivers, and representation in other events as well. IASCA is a possibility, as well as more WRC involvement.

Bottom line is, I have no intention of losing the close-knit atmosphere and small-club mentality that got us here.

Greg, just to let you know, I plan on having an SCCA car competing in ITS class for atleast some of the racing season next year, possibly all of it. Also, by fall of 05, I plan on beginning to build a Grand-Am Cup car, competing in GS class. Both of which I plan to run gigantic NICO decals all over :) This is all ofcourse, *if* I get my shop up and running to fund it. Future goals are to run Grand-Am Rolex and ALMS, but I have to work my way up there :)

Oh, and also something for other members to consider... NASA has an SE-R Cup series with two classes (SR and SRX). It would be cool to see a NICO sponsored car in that series as well. For more info on the SE-R Cup series, you can find it on NASA's website.
