i was just thinking today about all the stuff i wish i could afford to do to my car. and since i'm a full time student i don't make any money really to put into it. i'm sure there are a lot of other guys on here who cannot afford what they want for thier cars... or even more necessary things like even getting them running. there's a lot of car clubs, real car clubs, that pool money together for thier clubmembers for racing, or whatever their car needs are. i dont know how many members there are, but im sure there's plenty that just a little bit from everyone would make a huge pool we could all dip into every now and then for those really expensive things. of course there would have to be regulatory things, rules, etc.... and possibly even a logistical nightmare keeping track of things. but it's done by many already why cant we? of course only those adding to the pot can taketh away. don't kill me for this idea... and heck it probably was brought up b4, but is this practical for us?

No. It wouldn't fly.

First off.. people on the internet are notoriously fickle... Who wants to contribute their own money to people they've never met.

We tossed around the idea once upon a time of importing a NICO Skyline from Japan.. We thought.. geez.. $1 each from 50k members.. should be cake right.. We never would have come close.

Good idea though!

i tried to get people to donate to the "help dexter get a new vert" foundation, but that generated little more than sympathy.

most of us have been in your shoes jb. there's more important things in life than cars and education is one of them. when i was in college, i owned DSMs and spent way, WAY too much money on them. my senior year i bought a geo prism. if i could go back and do it over again, i would have bought the geo my senior year of high school and saved myself a TON of time and money. my advice to you is to buy a cheap, ugly, econocar that you won't be tempted to modify. save up and get your car after graduation and then go to town. by the time you get another cool car, you'll have plenty of time and money do what you wanted to do in college.

UNLESS you get married and need to buy a house and start having kids... then it's back to where you were in college. you really need to figure out what's important to you. keep your priorities straight and you'll enjoy your life a lot more. a silly car isn't even close to having a wonderful family that you can support becuase you made good choices in life.

so, the moral of the story is trade your vert to me for my geo

ditto- i'm married with 3 kids(one is a teenager) with a car paymnet and mortgage payment. i have only been able to afford cheap speakers from best buy and an air intake since i bought my vert over a year ago. i know the feeling to see all these super nice verts and hoping you had that kind of money to make your ride look good. especially when your passionate about cars and read everything about cars but yet you can never seem to achieve that dream of making you car look like some of the others. all i can say is just be patient and save up a little here and there. i do that but alot times my kids need money for school stuff and since my kids will always come before my car ,my "get my car looking nice foundation " funds always ends up empty. but i will not quit dammit. so just hang in there bro

i don't want kids and i dont want to get married. i have plenty of fun spoiling my nephew. i have had girlfriends but they always want everything to be about them, i guess i don't like the double standards. i have about another year and a half left of college until i can take the NCLEX exam then i plan to work at MAYO....until then i guess i just need to concentrate on school, keep girls from distracting me, and hope that my car doesn't fall apart in the meantime. it does really look nice, and runs great, but it'll need some TLC just like every other 15 year old car. and it's gotten plenty already which is why i bought it. i guess i'll save up for something like some of those nice tail lights and go small till i can afford the big things. eventually when im through with school i plan on buying a new car anyway and just tuning my 240. ill probably keep it for as long as i live.

oh yes, that's what i was going to do all along. i just thought i would throw that idea around here. i understand that a group would have to be pretty tight in order to share funds. and paying taxes isn't such a stupid thing btw....i kinda enjoyed my free education till 12th grade. now im payin out my *** though...or will be later for my loans.

^madcow speaks the truth. I can't believe how many youngin's drop all of their money into cars when they should be investing instead. Once they have a nice cushion built up, then they can live a little.

On the topic of a good for a younger person - B13 SE-R or NX2000. Fast enough to not need to mod it, yet still economical.

im def not looking for sympathy... it was just an idea i've had. and i worked to get where i am now. but i'm taking 18 credit hours this summer, and taking 24 right now... so no time for work. but i'll have school done twice as fast and that much sooner to be doing what i want. trust me, i work.

i've already had crap cars. i've had a 83' nissan pulsar NX. that car was slow as hell, but it was pretty advanced for its time period. and the a/c worked. it just had a rust problem cuz it was a northerner car. i've had an 86' pontiac 2000 sunbird which was quick but i wrecked it. i've had a 82' diesel chevette, and that thing still runs u cant kill it, but its back where i grew up on the farm and i think maybe my lil cuz drives it...then i moved up to a 94' nissan pickup 4x4 it was nice, then i had an 86' mustang GT 5.8 that would bark the tires in just about every gear, then i got a 92' honda prelude si which i absolutely loved but u had to use 93 octane... eff that... now i have my 240 vert. i don't want to go backwards.... i think you guys just want my car...

Hmm, I think we should all chip in and get that S13 hatch limo. We could chop the top and roll up to meets in it.

Take your only car? We'd replace it with something so you could get around. How about a Segway?
