Two words "Leaf springs"

Seriously, I ahve driven a C5. Fast as hell, great torque and all, but it just lacks something...Oh that is right! Build quality! For a few grand more, why in the HELL wouldn't you get an M3?!?!?!? Heavier and taller but more luxury, better warranty, more advanced EVERYTHING and just as fast through the 1/4 and faster through the slalom (non Z06 of course).

leaf springs have nothing to do with build quality. they are quite advanced. check out this thread. http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....76375

i will agree with you about the build quality and quality of materials but the m3 is already pretty much pushed to it's limit. it's pretty hard edged and doesn't have much more potential. the vette is a comfortable (relatively) cruiser that, if desired, can be made into one of the fastest cars on the street. they are both different cars catering to different customers. let's get back to making fun of an american icon.

Leaf springs = solid axle = unsprung weight topping 300+ lbs. in the rear = leaf springs weigh 50 lbs. = Leaf springs suck.

Torsion bars are gay too... I need to do a complete conversion on my 993.

=nothing like that on the vette.

the vette uses a very unique suspension design, well, just the spring really, everything else is fairly common. read the other thread.

Yeah, it's certainly not your "typical" leaf spring design. It handles itself well on the track, so who cares.

Does anyone have a larger version of that pic? :icesangel

Or even that pic without the the little ignorant message? My boss is a 'vette collector and I'd like to surprise him. :D

Never said that the leaf spring itslef is of poor build quality, just the car as a whole. Go download the new Top Gear review of tht C6 to REALLY see how crapply the car was built. I loathe all American crap.

Top Gear is an awesome show but they have this habit of bashing anything that comes from Detroit or Germany, sometimes justified and sometimes without explanation.

If you gave the guys at Top Gear a bucket of horse feces but wrote "Jaguar" on it with a Sharpie, they'd find a way to choose it as their favorite.

Despite that, I love the show.

Well, the Corvette isn't far from a bucket of horse feces when compared to much that the world has to offer. It is nice to see them rip on British cars and drool over German cars. Kinda funny how Clarkson drives a SL55 AMG now and how he loves Mercs. They are a bit British heavy, but it is no different than your illogical support of 53 year old technology in the 'Vette.

The world seems to forget about the Corvette's daily driveability, ride quality, and... PRICE! And cost of parts and service, available places to have it serviced, quantity of experienced techs, performance upgrades, decent reliability... this adds up to insanely great value.

Lately, MB build quality sucked. See the comparison of the S500 and Phaeton in Autoweek.

The MB had multiple electrical glitches that left them stranded, and on its last run steam started to rise out from under the hood. The sick dog was sent home on a flatbed.

Then there's Autoweek's previous tests, including a C-class wagon with a glovebox that refused to stay shut and a major suspension failure, all within the first few thousand miles.

MB is moving up again (still lagging behind Ford, Chevy, Mercury, and Nissan); just 2 years ago they were duking it out with Kia and Volkswagen for who had the most problems per vehicle.
