Well is anyone a fan of the NHL or Hockey?

My favorite team in the NHL is the Buffalo Sabres. What about yours?

Also, since the season is right around the corner with preseason games this week and next week, how do you think the season will turn out for some, who gets the most goals, who is the best goalie, who is the best defensemen and who wins the Cup and President's trophy?

To me, Washington will once again power through the regular season, but if they don't get some defense their playoff run will be stopped prematurely.

I also believe San Jose might make a huge run this year, they are always a front runner for regular season success, but without Nabakov in net and instead Niemi, their luck might change this year.

And well, I think Miller will steal the show in goalie world once again, Vezina trophy winner last year he continues his dominance and Tyler Myers becomes a household defender in this league, easily comparable to the size of Chara, but skating and position like Lidstrom, and Rob Niedermayer.

I say Ovechkin gets the most points and goals this year. He easily would have won the Art Ross and Maurice Rocket Richard had he not missed 10 games last season. 1 goal and 3 points behind winning them, as he is the best player in the game today.

So I guess my regular season predictions go like this:
Eastern Conference:
1. Washington Capitals
2. Buffalo Sabres
3. Pittsburgh Penguins
4. Philadelphia Flyers
5. Boston Bruins
6. Ottawa Senators
7. Tampa Bay Bolts
8. Carolina Hurricanes
9. New Jersey Devils
10. Montreal Candiens
11. New York Rangers
12. Toronto Make Beliefs
13. Atlanta Thrashers
14. Florida Panthers
15. New York Islanders

Western Conference:
1. San Jose Sharks
2. Chicago Blackhawks
3. Vancouver Canucks
4. Los Angeles Kings
5. Detroit Redwings
6. Phoenix Coyotes
7. Colorado Avalanche
8. Nashville Predators
9. Calgary Flames
10. Dallas Stars
11. Columbus Bluejackets
12. Anaheim Ducks
13. Minnesota Wild
14. St. Louis Blues
15. Edmonton Oilers

sharks all day!!!! i live in kansas so i'm allowed to choose what ever team i want to be my favorite......although defense is going to be a big problem. the sharks never had a very impressive blue line. now with blake gone and nabby out of net they have some slack to pick up. however, with thorton centering marleu heatly and now possiably pavi they are a constant offensive threat.

that being said, i don't see the caps getting past the penguins in the post season. crosby and malkin aside.... the pens have the HARDEST blueline in the nhl with the exception of MAYBE chicago. the addition of mick and martin to play along side orpik (who is significantly underrated in my opntion) means they will be able to have a possiable top 2 defender on the ice at all times. ovechkin is skilled but defense wins games in the new nhl.

I think your East standings could be a little off. Jersey at 9? They should be in the 2-5 area. I think Buffalo is a 4-6th place team.

yea some of those predictions i think are a bit off....

jersey and montreal have been up there the last couple years, and have very similar teams/ skill sets.

being from PA and closer to the philly side im a Flyers fan; yea, most Philadelphia teams never make it all the way but they got spirit. I was a bit bummed to see some of our losses especially with Gagne this year, but with their new coaching they play with alot more heart. I was also relieved they didnt go try and sign a star goalie since it never works when we get star players and they just waste cap space. Its nice to see guys outplay their salary, as dumb as that sounds

i just wish i could watch the preseason games (dont have digital cable... grrr) but the season opener is in a week soo im pumped :)

I know some of them could be a bit off, most notably New Jersey and St Louis, totally forgot they had Halak now.

Montreal was lucky only because of Halak, without him Price would have been beat in the first round.

Honestly, Pittsburgh is nothing besides Malkin and Crosby. Who are the wingers on that team, and their defense isn't anything to be desired about. They did upgrade that this year, but with Fluery in net it's anyone's guess how many goals he will allow. He is terribly inconsistent. I said all last year Pittsburgh would be lucky to make it past the second round of the playoffs, and they didn't. Unless they get wingers for Malkin and Crosby their offense won't ever be where it should be. And the only way to get wingers on that team is get rid of Malkin and his 9 million salary.

With Buffalo, they may be my favorite team, but they won the Division last year and got 100 points, had they won their final game they would have been 2nd in the East instead. They are a legit division winner in everyway, especially with Miller between the pipes still. And they upgraded their defense, losing Tallinder and Lydman, and replacing them with Leopold and Morrison, younger and much better players.

Hawks made too many changes. I'm not too excited to see how bad we are now :tisk:

Interestingly enough, my girlfriend, who I satisfy sexually nearly every time we copulate, is a big Avalanche fan. She will not associate with me while I'm wearing Redwings paraphernalia.

I think that Buffalo is the opposite than Pittsburgh then. The Sabres roster is full of secondary scoring (unless Vanek shows up), good d, and of course, Ryan Miller.

I think Pittsburgh is a better team this year. Last year, Fleury was indeed inconsistent, but with a s*** d than the year before. Their wingers aren't anything to write home about, but with Staal centering Malkin's line, a healthy Kunitz, a potentially productive Comrie, they will be a better unit than last year. Even with their winger woes of last year they were 5th in goals/game.

It's all over folks. Now that Boston has Tyler I think they've started chiseling the cup already. At least that's what the "real" fans say.

Still, if Savard stays on the ice this year, I'm predicting a #2 or #3 finish in the east for beantown.

Well the season officially started yesterday.

Carolina won their first game against Minnesota, already on a better start than last year.
Pittsburgh lost their home opener in their brand new stadium.
Toronto won against the Canadiens, well they won't start 0-8 this year.
The Hawks pushed the game to OT but lost. The Avs looked really strong tonight.
Oilers blanked the Flames tonight. They an only go up.

Sorry about the Toronto comment earlier, haha. I don't see them making the playoffs again this year, they have a good defense, but outside of Kessel, they don't have much scoring power.

And with Buffalo, their scoring is fine, they may not have a huge scorer outside of Vanek. But Pominville, Roy, Connolly, and hopefully Ennis and maybe Stafford, if he shows up this year, are all capable of 60+ points. Roy and Pominville have both hit 80 points in their careers and Pommers can net 30+. Connolly has proven if healthy he has amazing hands, and Vanek is looking amazing so far. He stays healthy he should be over 80 points and 40 goals. Stafford is looking rejuvenated too, lost some weight and hopefully has a breakout year. And Ennis, oh man. I hope he is a front runner for the Calder. Won the AHL rookie of the year last year.

I think Buffalo has two good scoring lines and two great shutdown defensive lines. Their third line consists of Jochen Hecht scoring whacky angle German goals, Rob Niedermayer, who is just a defensive forward, and Mike "The one man penalty kill" Grier. That is a third line you don't want to mess with, and a defensive top pairing of Tyler Myers and Shoane Morrisonn. 6'8" and 6'4" defensmen. You're not skating through those guys at all. Put those five on the ice and holy crap.

I really think everyone underrates Buffalo, I mean I'm a huge fan of them, but if you really dissect the team, they aren't anything but a division winner and front runner in the Eastern conference. They are a solid team that will make some noise.
