Ok, so I have the 2009 Coupe, and its still under warranty. I ended up calling the dealerships part store, to ask them what I could and could not do to the car as it was under warranty.

So I ask about adding aftermarket exhaust, and the guy tells me that after market exhaust is illegal in this state (NH). I was quite seriously like "wtf?"

So I decided to check the laws, and apparently it is illegal to add an aftermarket exhaust that makes the car louder than the stock exhaust. So first I find this amazingly vague, and second apparently there was a proposed amendment to change it so that if the aftermarket exhaust was louder than 95dbs it is illegal.

I've searched and searched, but I can't find if it passed or not. Any ideas?

I was thinking about getting the Stillen 3" aftermarket exhaust for the 2009 coupe.

Well, I know that up here our laws are such that one's "exhaust outlet cannot be made larger than factory specifications", as well as a certain dB limit too. One of my buddies got nailed right in front of me as we were leaving a big meet one night...that being said, he does have a fart-can with a 5" diameter tip on his xB...

Electronic Exhaust cut-out ftw!!! lol but seriously not a bad idea for ppl where they cant put exhaust on there car.... go from dead silent to obnoxiously loud with the flick of a switch mounted in the car......

*DISCLAIMER* although you have the ability to make your car quiet, it is addicting to open it up and be extremely loud on the streets (most of my driving i actually have the cut-out open).

oh and also, i'm not sure how it would affect a 2.5s due to the loss of back pressure.... i'm the only one with a cut-out and i have a 3.5se and it works amazingly.... i also have aftermarket exhaust.... Cali thing, you always got to be different and stand out even when your trying not to lol

heres a vid of my car opening and closing the cut-out (sounds 1,000 times better in person, sounds sort of s***ty in the vid)

Well the good news is I checked with some friends who are more knowledgeable than I am and they said that the aforementioned amendment passed, so as long as it is not louder than 95dbs at 2,800rpm than it is legal.

Hurray for people working at a local Nissan dealership, and not understanding the local laws...
