Ok - after reading the squabble on Bosch platinum plugs (I've got +4's installed on my Q), I'm willing to try the NGK plugs to see if there's a difference.

Where's the cheapest/best place to purchase?

Why not Denso's?

Thanks in advance for your sage advice.

No, I did a power balance after that, and it came out fine. All the plugs looked like they had been fired in a Kiln. #5 just gave up the ghost first. I drove it about 150 miles to work and back, before I could get her to the shop. I just knew I had a bad injector. In fact, I had alread ordered new injectors, and had the shop scheduled for the work, when I decided to get rid of the Bosch plugs. When I pulled the plugs, I was mortified. I put the NGK's in, and she ran like a top!

This was Layla. She had almost 250,000 miles on her when I sold her, and she was STRONG. She would still beat Lola from 50 to 140 MPH.

This is why I can say that Bosch plugs just don't work with the Q. When I bought Lola, I got new plugs. The last guy had put Bosch plugs in her too.

When I took Mandy 1 up to Wes's marina to have the plugs replaced, switching from a mix of Bosch and NGK to all NGK made a huge improvement in idle and performance. Its as if before I was driving at half throttle. The NGKs we pulled didnt look terrible yet.

Anyone have the part number/model for the plug we want? I see only "NGK Platinum" on q45.org and nobody's metioned it yet on this thread.

OMG so now the densos are not good too? I just went and changed the bosch with the densos. They didnt have the NGK. I have no choice anyways cuz Monday i'm leaving to vegas to celebrate July 4th I'm driving the Q from L.A. to there, so gotta use what I have, no time for delivery. Hopefully it'll be fine.

The NGK Double Platinum's are OEM?

How about switching to the Iridium - I understand Iridium won't collect deposits - besides it sounds so cool!

Anyone indexing their plugs so the gap is towards the intake valves?

Was that last question anal retentive?

Huh? There's a much easier way to do it without taking the heads off. You only have to purchase the amount of spark plugs that the engine requires too!

I just ordered 8 NGK Iridium's from sparkplugs.com ($90 worth).

I'm eager to see what my +4's look like in light of Jeff's discovery.

I will post pix after the swap.

OK, guys, like all the other threads say, stick with OEM specified NGK platinum, only adjusting the heat range if necessary. They were designed for the VH series.

Iridium are not designed for the VH series.

The iridiums might be OK, but theyre roughlythe same price and theyre no different in performance..

The part number you want is PFR5G-11, or PFR6G-11 if you want a slightly colder heat range.

I would be interested to read documentation on Iridium .vs. Platinum performance.

I can see why the +4 plugs can burn, since there is 4 times the surface area on the electrode to build up contaminants, but single electrode Iridium or Platinum shouldn't make a difference.
