Sticky tires and suspension.

Keep the engine reliable and basic, if this is your only car. At least, until the world becomes a road course instead of gridlock. If you need an economical commuter, well you've got that already. Sticky tires will transform your car and raise the fun factor more than a few bolt on engine mods, IMO.:)

Focus on suspension next. This way you can go autocrossing and have the ability to be fairly competitive. Plus a nice suspension will change the way you feel about the car for the better!

How much money do you have? Focus on suspension and brakes then performance. Do lil performance things like pulleys, intakes, headers, etc. Dont get cams and that stuff until your body cant support it. Get strut bar, sway bars, brakes and then get cams or whatever engine setup you're going for

brakes. it's the a modification that can help save your life and at the same time help shorten your track times too. Often times overlooked in a project car, but very important for a car with weak stock brakes like the 240.

Don't mean to hijack you methodchris, but what cat are you using and where'd you get it?

Pulley would be next, IMHO. Then head for struts and springs. Definately check your tc rod bushings, mine were blown even on my 98.
