Sadly, I will be selling my S14 within a couple months. I am planning to ge a more practical car, most likely a sedan. I have been looking into E36 M3 and 2001-2002 S4. What are you guys opinion on those two cars? Which one would you suggest? what are the pros and cons for those two cars? I have searched through Audi forums and BMW forums but their biased on one another.

At least get a sedan with some balls :pface , I have a couple of videos of M3's getting their asses handed to them by a 350Z, a AE86, a S2000 and a EVO7 (all on seperate occations) if you want to see what i mean.

The S4 and M3 look good on paper, are fun to look at and nice to cruise around in, not really high performers though (if thats even what you are looking for), just heavy european cruisers.

For my under 30K new sedan list:G35 sedan, IS300, EVO8, WRX, BMW 325i

the EVO8 and G35 sedan are the fastest of the bunch, the 325i handles very well though.

J.D. Powers results speak for themselves as cfar as BMW quality/service over the last few years.

Several (former Audi) guys have talked about the "necessary" relationship they had with the service tech :(.

Give us a general idea of:
  • Price Range
  • New or is used ok?
  • Must haves (doors?, stick?, cylinders?, etc)
  • Future (drive it forever or mod?)
  • Brands you'd never own
  • Brands you like (other than Nissan :D)
<we'll be able to give you more informed opinions>

-well i am looking to spend around 30k on my next car. -New or used are both fine. -must have 4 doors and stick. -I do plan to mod it but not too much. -I guess brands i would never own would be domestics (not to diss domestics or anyting). -I thought about getting the G35 sedan but I have been driving japanese cars every since i got my license. I am thinking its time for a change. Which is why i am look into german cars like bmw and audi. But i am leaning more towards audi because I dont like the attitude of a lot of bmw owners.

I'm active with the Audi club, so I'm biased that the Audi's are awesome cars. M3's are amazing too, but if cost of ownership is a concern, the Audi and BMW are going to be more expensive to keep than the japanese marques. Also reliability has not been a strong point in recent years with Both Audi and BMW.. And for $30K, you're talking used M3/S4

For 30K you get a lot of choices in new Japanese 4-door stick carsthat have full warranties.

Altima SE (V-6) wolf in sheeps clothingMaxima (more plush than the altima but a little more expensive(G35 Sedan is very nice, but might be a little over $30KWRX/STi Evo

I say test drive them all. Lotsa fun ahead for you. It's not what we say that matters. It;s what you like best. Enjoy

If RWD isn't a must, start the search now for a new (overstock) 2003 Infiniti I35?

I agree that both the Audi & BMW will have high Cost of Ownerships. A WRX STi offers ALOT of fun for the dollar.

Yeah, the German's will definitely have a high cost of ownership. However, J-Spec, I wouldn't talk about their performance. Albeit it that there are Japanese cars that are taking S4s, but that's because they're smaller and lighter. An S4 is pretty big comparitively to an Evo. An Evo is roughly the size of my Sentra, while an S4 (I'm comparing to my brother's A4), is a few inches longer and a little wider too. As well as having more luxurious features and so forth. Evos are pretty stripped down, comparitively. BMW is well, BMW... and well... hard to beat. However, the addition of Quattro is always good. On the other hand, if you ever push an S4 too hard, bad stuff happens (blown turbos anyone?). Though the new ones have V8s, if I'm not mistaken.

All things in consideration: Because of the cost of ownership I have to say that a G is probably the best idea, maybe a little biased. That's because it's got quite a bit of power, yet it's pretty big to handle people/stuff. They've had sticks for a good year or so now (I think? Didn't they start offering the stick when the coupe came out this year?), so there should be some used ones that are in wonderful condition, or even better, an overstock 03' might still be around. If you're willing to wait til the fall or so, you might be able to find an 04' on sale. The quality of Japanese cars is about on par with Germans nowadays, and they don't cost as much to fix. Reliability-wise they kick a German in the nads good and hard!

Just my thoughts, happy hunting and happier driving!

you could get a CTS and have Repoman hump your leg:D

there's a lot of choices out there, you just gotta find all of them.

you could always get some Kia's from Tanner's here in TN, they have a buy one get one for a dollar sale going on (no ****, used car for a dollar, dealer's choice of course, but still!(no commas, parenthesis in parenthesis and improper spelling, who rocks?) but you'd be buying not one, but two Kias).
