Hello everyone. I just got my car back, full KA24DE rebuild. Now I gave a few problems and questions. First things first. They told me wait 1000 mikes before you can actually "drive" the car. I've been driving about 50-60 and staying below 3000 rpms.

I'm not sure if this is acceptable or not but I'm trying to be careful. My car idles below 1k but sometimes keeps jumping to 1 when I'm at a standstill. U cannot hear a difference in the engine but the gauge dies it. Also, when I'm driving, it does the same thing. It will jump a lot and won't be consistent. I can still tell but its annoying and idk if this is fixable.

Lastly, I had brand new belts installed but everytime I turn the car on it screeches a lot. Is this normal in a rebuilt it does it need to be tightened asap. I'm not that mechanically inclined but I've done my fair share if things. Please get back to me thanks. :dblthumb:

Who told you to drive it like that? Supposed to really rev it everywhere during the break in process.

Check and tighten the P/S belt. Also check if the pulley spins properly.

Are all of the vacuum lines properly connected?

My mechanic told me not to push it during the break in process. He told me he fixed all the vaccum lines but I guess not lol. So your telling me I can drive faster and increase my rpms above 4k? I just. Don't want to ruin the engine. I was out if a car for 4 months, not doing that again.

Yes, as far as I know, you are supposed to drive the engine hard and do a lot of engine braking to get the rings to seal in nicely.

Like asoomal said, check and tighten all the belts.

If you can, get a vacuum gauge hooked up to your car.
At idle, you should sit at around -23 psi. If it's any higher (like -19), you probably have a leak somewhere.

Also, when the needle jumps around as you're driving, does your car jerk back and forth?
If the engine itself isn't actually bouncing between rpms, it could just be the RPM gauge acting up.

When I'm driving the engine feels smooth. No jerking whatsoever. I'm guessing its the gauge. It happened before my engine was rebuilt. Will try checking vacuum lines and get a gauge. Thanks.

Also, what is your idle when the engine is fully warm?

Idles below 1k fully warmed. Haven't seen it pass that.

Give me a few I will check now. I'm not 100% sure of the exact rpm atm.

Idles are about 900. Revved it a few and went to 700 then came back to 900. Thus is weird because earlier when I was driving, it was around 300.

300 is not normal.
Check for leaks.

750 -/+50 rpm is normal.

I kept my rebuilt ka24de under 4k for the first 150 miles and then occasionally took it up to 5.5 k for the next 100. The bottom end is fully built with forged rods and pistons and I also make sure to let it warm up for around 3-5 min before diving it. On about 1k right now and it is driving great.

Is it idling any better?
