Hey people... I'm new here but i've come here alot for info in the past. I own both a z31 thats getting converted na2t and i just bought an s13 for cheap that i might be giving to my friend as a project. The lady i bought the s13 from was abit shady on the details. but i got it for a cheap enough price that i would have been fine with getting a rolling chassi.

In a nut shell she said the timing chain skipped so she took it to a shop. decided she didnt like the price so she parked it. She also said she didnt hear any valve tap and she didnt think the valves were bent... i got it home turned over the engine (horrible tapping sound). take off valve cover (the infamous broken guide.) no tapping after that. but once i got the upper timing cover off i noticed something slightly odd. the cam timing marks are right where there supposed to be... did a getto leak down test. (consisted of us blowing through a comp test hose so see if we can hear it leaking... Stupid i know). first cyl seemed to be leaking out the intake. the other 3 we heard bubbles in the oil pan. we did a compression test (250amp on a battery charger since the battery was dead and open throttle.) cyl1 - 75 cyl234 - 100. ik thats ungodly low all around... but since the back 3 cyls seemed to be leaking passed the rings on the getto leak down i'm worried that a full rebuild is inorder rather then just a head swap. but i was also thinking that maybe my comp test was thrown low for some reason(the battery). What do you guys think?

Welcome to NICO!!

I wouldnt worry about the numbers being low, you really need to do compression test with the engine at operating temps. I mainly look for consistency, especially when you dont do it the "right" way.. IE taking out spark plugs, full battery, operating temp....

So its not making noise anymore?

No. the tapping was just that broken guide... my guess is the woman took it to the shop. they reset the timin and found out about the bent valves. so she decided it wasnt worth the money. She just left out those details. Idk about the compression results tho. just seems like it should be higher then that. I had all the plugs out, and the engine turns over decently fast on 250amps. It would be higher at op temp just doesnt seem like it would make a 70 psi diff... I'm looking up what the comp values are supposed to be now...

I think you're right. I've done a compression test on my 240 with it being cold, and I had 130+ on all the cylinders.

Welcome to NICO! If the KA (your engine) is toast, the bright side is that you can get a used replacement pretty cheap.
