http://nlectc.org/pdffiles/tirereport2001.pdf128 page massive test.

Notice the differences in Goodyear RSA in 225/60/16 vs the orther brands and a special S speed rated brand x tire........dramatic wet braking differences from 60 mph like 33 feet on RWD Crown Vic [Q equivalent ?].

!!!!!!!!!150 feet vs 184 feet wet. But only 4 feet dry.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comparing the same tires showed that even the 97V [1609 pounds] size was overloaded on the heavier Crown Vic vs lighter Impala.

dry 0.75G vs 0.69G; wet 0.30 vs 0.25G, 3 mph difference on serpentine test.

This is the most detailed accurate tire test in the world [published].

Wet stopping distance, think wet stopping distance before you buy a tire..........S/T rated bad V/Z rated good

Yok AVS dbS2 vs Gyear RSA and directional tires are not necessarily better in wet.

I'm printing as I type this.

Hope the boss doesn't frown on my choice of "bedtime reading."

Thanks Dennis!

I hope the engineers who did the tire test didn't pick the best of the S rated for the brand x comparison that would be scarey considering the number of S/T rated tires we see on Q/J/G/LS/ES.

It would appear that a Q with SOFT oem V rated or newer Z/W might out stop the car behind by 30-40 feet in wet weather......better be careful what follows you..........wondered why we see so many rear ended Q.

At least the typical Police car [RSA] is only 20 feet worse if they used oem pads and not the low bidder...............Q Bumper sticker " Danger Racing Brakes" ......imagine the G35 Coupe at 115 feet............mmmmmm nice parts car in a few years.

:D

You're making me feel better and better about my sticky 99V's and OEM brakes, Dennis.

The above is the measure and prime example of a fanatic/forward thinker. I'm massively impressed.

Documented/published tire reviews are great. Thanks, Q45tech:D

I wonder what would happen, if the Insurance Institue, that crash-tests cars, did some skid testing of tire brands.

My thoughts:1. Tire costs would increase 15% to 30%2. Tires would improve as much as 50%3. People would be more aware of tire pressure and treadwear.

The Firestone/Explorer fiasco sure made a difference, for a few months, but I still see people all the time with under-inflated tires.

The last U-Haul trailer I rented, had 15, 18, 12, and 20 PSI in the four tires!

I bet we all would be suprised at the stopping difference +/-5 PSI would make in that test.

I like the Crown Vic RWD [4043#]vs Impala FWD [3600#] police car test because they are so relavant to Q and something like the ES300 weight and drive train wise. Even the POLICE version CV brakes are now up to old [90-01] Q standards. The rear springs and 20mm rear sway bar rates are close to each other obviously the solid axle on the CV is still its weak point but the suspension has been greatly improved in the last 2 years

The 140 feet from 60 mph on the CV results from the less than agressive front/rear braking bias and the RSA tires.

I doubt many used 90-96 Q with less than oem quality tires/pads rotors can do as well today. They prewarmed the brakes with 2 90 to zero decelerations before doing 6 - 60 to zero stops and averaged 4 different drivers 4 times to arrive at 140-147 feet.

Not the way the magazine do the test obviously a severe test.

The newer CV for 2003 weighs 4155 pounds [+112 pounds] [added safety redesign] thus decrease in performance! 17.0 secs at 84 mph is the new quarter mile........9.14 secs 0>60 mph
