I just found you guys after having my 90Q since 1995. I've got a (very) early model with a chip (don't know for sure but that's what the original owner said. I do know it will go past the 133mph Japan limit), K&N, Tokikos, Powerslots, PerfFric frt pads, ceramic rears, Bridge HP50 frts/BFG TAT rears, and a rebuilt transmixer. Here's the question list (send me to old threads if you choose):1. I'd like to go to 16x8 wheels and 245/45s - what wheels fit, 300ZXT? No chromey cheese please.2. This thing is way underbraked, too. Can I add 300ZX or ZXT front brakes? rears?3. I think a 2000 Maxima frt strut brace is the one (can't afford any Steve Millen stuff) is that correct. Any brand better than another?4. It looks to me (I said to the Mrs) that there's some rust on the exhaust. I'm a Flowmaster fan. Has anyone gone that route??TIAjohn

The 16 x 8 rear 300zx TT are an excellant choice.........255/50/16 Michelin Pilots will fit nicely.

300zx TT rotors are the same diameter as oem but they are 2mm thicker [30mm vs 28mm] not really a significant increase in rotor weight to justify.

Flowmaster is the worst in this application use a Walker Dynomax dual in dual out stainless [two isolated straight thru muffs in a common oval case].

Thanks300zx TT = Twin Turbo? Any particular years? I'm not up to speed on the Nissan lettering and codes. I'm not much of a Bibb fan, but thanks for the Michelin sizing tip - 255s YES!!.So, I can add 300ZX calipers front and rear and use my Powerslots??I had great effects from using Flowmasters on the Porsches I ran. Seems strange that Walkers could be that much better, but OK.

Thanks for the tips. I've got an old Stillen catalogue, so I've tried to match up 300ZX stuff with Q stuff to figure out what fits.

I assume that the NISMO oil fill caps on eBay should fit and give me 10-15hp. 8-)john

The 300zx calipers will bolt on if you remove the dust shield and use the NISSAN 300zx 16 x 8 wheels........most 16" wheels won't clear the calipers.

The oem calipers are not the problem the rotor weight is too little even the 30mm Z rotors. You need 32mm minimum for the cars weight.

The Walker are straight thru you can see straight thru front to back........replacing the heavy rear muffler.

We've tried 6 different brands and the Ultraflow beats them all!

Use 2 Chrysler straps/bands around the muffler and weld the oem ears to the junctions.

Dennis, what would you think about removing one of the resonators (not both, just one) to make it a tad louder? Worth it, have you done anyhting like this?

The straight thru resonators and the H pipe position are a tuned set, the rear muffler is where any power loss and noise reduction is located.

If you want a vibration free floor pan stick with changing only the rear unit.

Several Nico members (and myself included very shortly) have the Skyline GTR brake system upgrade. It's a nissan motorsports package, you can buy directly from Nissan.

Dennis may say the rotor weight is not sufficient, but every nico member I've spoken with and heard discuss this upgrade have all commented on improved stopping distances, and less rotor warpage. I would consider it. They are an improvement over the 300zx brakes, which are an improvement over the q45 brakes.

You can buy the kit from stillen, or from anyone who offers nissan motorsports parts..

Shouldnt you be able to use G35 brakes, as the skyline GTR is the G35 in japan

No clue on that. That is a whole different animal

When I say skyline brakes..

I am refering to the Skyline R32 GTR.

That's what the brake upgrade is coming from.

BTW: The skyline brake upgrade came stock on the 300zx anniversary edition, that was sold in japan.

It's a nice upgrade.

DUH!! I just forgot

My good friend RSI, hooked up the best brake upgrade for the Q.

If you are SERIOUS about braking, and want the best

Wilwood has just released a kit for the G50 Q45

You will find a thread if you dig through the archives.. shouldn't be hard to find.. it was probably last discussed only a few weeks back.

If you have $3,600 to spend, and only the absolute best braking will do, check out the kit. You will have to go with 18 inch tires/wheels though.. The brakes look so sweet, check out the tread.

They are absolutely beautiful, and offer up what I can only imagine as some insane braking.

Thanks to all for the tips. I know about the Skyline GTR brake kit - it's one in the Stillen catalogue I have, but US$3500+ for a brake kit on a $2500 car just isn't me. 8-)There is a "Otto Racing' 00-03 Maxima strut brace on eBay for $40+. Will it work on the 90Q???The 300ZXT wheels I've seen listed are called out as 16x7,5 frt and 16x8,5 rear. Are the sellers measuring correctly or flange out-to-out. It seems that even at 7,5 wide they'd be bigger than the dink wheels the 90Q came with. However, with 55frtX45rear weight bias, I should go with the 8 (or 8,5) rears all around, no? So 2 sets of 300ZXT rears??Sorry to be a bother with these things that you guys have already gone thru.Thxjohn

The original wheels are 6.5" (you have to measure the wheel, with the tire off. It is from inside bead edge toinside bead edge.

8.5" wheels all the way around would be tight, on the front. I have 8" on the front (17" aftermarket), and they fit fine.

Any bar made for the 00 Maxima will work, if you don't mind doing a little drilling. make sure the plate that the strut bolts go through is flat, and not ridged.

I agree, on the brakes. Look at AZhitman's thread about the stainless steel lines, fluid, etc. This helped my brake pedal feel tremendously.

I plan on a 300ZX aluminum caliper upgrade soon (Unsprung weight, etc). I have been searching eBay for a cheap set. I already have the cross-drilled and slotted rotors (they eat up brake pads). Next time, I will go for cross drilled, only.

Be careful buying old used wheels. They will more than likely be out of round, and warped. Not many 300ZX drivers were easy on the wheels.

Thanks, again folks. I don't mind a little drilling, I've been fabricating race car parts since the early 60s (OK, so I'm old) and managed an IMSA Porsche team and driving school. I'm looking at (after my Bushtax refund): 16x8 wheels (looks like TireRack, eh?) with 255s, 300ZXT brakes, 00 Maxima strut brace, DynoMax muffler, and a paint redo. Then comes another 150k miles of dream cruisin' thru the wineries of the NY Finger Lakes - It's Good to be King.8-)john
