Hi guys, I just recently bought a 1989 240SX... high mileage, but it's in near perfect condition, with the original KA24E (a motor which, by the way, has never had to be repaired in the last 13 years.)I've just been reading up on different engines commonly swapped, and I'm still a little confused.Firstly, is the SR20 the engine that was used on the Silvia?Second, what car did the CA18 originally come from? Finally, I've just been looking at all the debates for 'Turbo my KA or get the SR20 that's turboed already.' Wouldn't a Turbo KA have a higher output than the SR20 since the KA had a larger displacement to begin with? Thanks!

well im may be new but i know SR20's are built from the factory and went through the testing neccesary to be released turbo in stock form. there for it can hold up alot better than the Ka24 wich orig. was a truck engine.

The SR20 was a truck engine too.

As far as turbo options, there were naturally aspirated trims as well, but I don't want to confuse you. : )

The CA18DET came in base model S13 Silvias. The SR20DET redtop came in upper level S13 Silvias.

The CA18DET came in the original 180SX. The later 180SX had the backtop S13 SR20DET.

The S14 had only the black top S14 SR20DET.

The S15 had only the black top S15 SR20DET.

the KA was/is a truck motor. but a damn tough one. don't dismiss it so fast and jump on the SR bandwagon. i have seen some KA turbos(all stock internals) that put the SR the shame. both are great for different reasons.

by your response i can tell u it wasn't for u. knowing that, why the f*** do you care. did u waste 20 seconds of net time in checking this thread out? the great thing about a forum like this is that u can get threads that are monthes old, and then, miracle of miracles, u can actually add ur thoughts to maybe help out a fellow 240/200/180/silvia/sil-eighty owner who is wondering about something u know of.

I don't want to offend I H8 UR DSM, but I certainly found the new response quite helpful. Just so you know, the forum sends out an e-mail whenever there's a response, even if months have passed by. I just had a curiosity about the KA24's advantage in displacement after a turbo over the SR20DET. I found the acknowledgement and info on relative strengths of the block and internals quite useful, even if it's more qualitative than quantitative - opinions are welcome and encouraged right?Anyways, I'm glad that not everyone dismisses my thread because it does not fall under the heading of 'have you tried such and such product' or '(insert company here)'s new body kit' or 'here's my crazy new mod idea.' I could run off a string of performance measurements and poor grammar sentences to sound hardcore if I wanted to. Some of us just want good daily drivers with a little style and have less number intense questions.
