I recently bought a 94 Q with 129k took it to the local nissan dealer and had the 60k mile svc done to the car. So one night leaving work i pass a car on the freeway and when i came to a stop i noticed the car had a noticeable miss. now the car when it rains misses and stumbles also idles irratically and shakes lightly and stops. it also uses more gas now before i had the service done. So should i change the plugs again or should i think about coil pack replacement.

First read the Articles posted here.

Next, read the FSM and TSB.

Next, read all posts by Q45tech.

Then go check your MAF connection.

A lot of Nissan technicians have never seen a VH45DE, but most of them think they know how to work on them. Very few actually do.

You have very little hope when you take your car to a non Senior Infiniti technician unless you supervise and know more than they do. That is the value of this board for those who will invest the time to learn.

The good news is that your symptoms are a fairly common complaint. The bad news is that you're going to have to do some reading. As maxnix said, your MAF connector or the MAF itself could need cleaning. You can find instructions at:

http://www.q45.org/maf.html

Read through that site a bit, as well.

It could also be your injectors. The gas these days is getting a little iffy (including water absorbtion - rain?) and tends to mess up injectors. You should try to find some BG44K and run it through your tank.

You might try some ISOheet first.

With rare exception, the only people who ever replace coil packs are the dealers, for reasons entirely unknown to any experienced Q45 owner. I just cannot fathom why they do this. They are almost never a problem. Most current Infiniti dealers have no technicians experienced in the 1st gen Q45. Be wary of their expertise.

Lastly, spend some time with this site's search engine. There are 1000's of past threads that can give you all the information you will ever need to care for your Q45.
