Hey guys!So glad I found this and have been reading it non stop since i went to my nissan dealership and saw the versa for the first time.

I was looking at some other cars, however, the versa SL package had generally everything I wanted and for 18600 (canadian) i really couldnt complain.

All thats left now is 08's so the 07 is not an option for me.

I have a few general questions.Firstly ive read a lot of things regarding issues with the 07's. seems like there was a lot of problems. anyone know what the situation is for 08 (im guessing they were a result of it being a new model)

Anyone think I it will be possible to get a lower MRSP than that on an 08? i hear there is not much of a markup.

and finially! Finance or lease. I will let you know my delema. Im an engineering student that dont know where I will be working in 2 years time. could be the states and could be canada. The numbers he gave me for a 4 year lease stated that the car buyout would be about 8700 which i guess is semi close to what they will sell for by then. I dont want to keep it for any longer than 4 years (i have an expensive habbit of always wanting something new haha) even if I go with another nissan once I get set up in a permanent position. The versa is kind of a transistion car for me.

I guess the way I look at it is if I buy a used bucket for 10 and drive it to the grund and cant sell it or buy a versa for 20 and sell it for 10 there really isnt that much of a difference. and i get a nicer car in the meantime

This is my first car purchase (new anaways) so be easy on me and any tips or thoughts are appriciated!

PS you guys are running an awsome forum here with great input and suggestions. keep it up!!!

Steve

Welcome!

You can always try bargaining with your dealer to see if you can get the price lower. Usually you can get lower than MSRP, but not lower than invoice.

As for issues with '07's... its mostly issues with the first few months' productions of '07's. The earlier ones had the weird issues, but the later '07's had the number of issues drop off dramatically.

Purchase vs. lease... that depends on how big of a down payment you want to put on the car, and how long you intend to keep it. If you keep just below the annual mileage on the lease, and want to turn it in at the end of the lease, it's a cheaper way to go in the short run. If you buy it, generally you will have both a higher payment and a longer term, but at the end the vehicle is yours. Should you decide to sell it, that money is yours. With a lease, you're locked in and can't sell it, you have to wait to turn in the car at the end of the lease (unless you want some SEVERE penalties).

And keep in mind that a lease will be difficult to modify if you intend to in anyway. Even simple changes will need to be reversed if you decide to turn it back in. I'm not sure if that's your thing or not, but it's definately something to keep in mind.
