Hey guys. Recently it was discovered that the valve covers on my '96 Q were leaking (about 108,000 miles). It is quite evident that at least a partial teardown will be necessary. In the event of a "while you're in there" thought crossing my mind, the rest of the motor may end up being rebuilt.

What I am wondering, however, is where on the car the four O2 sensors are located. With the engine work, a changed exhaust setup may be in order (primary muffler deletes), but I don't know whether the sensors are mounted near these mufflers. Can I safely cut out those mufflers?

Thanks.

Fore and aft of the catalytic convertors. The muffler is the last thing before the tail pipe. Some like the cheapo Mustang sound. No gain in performance.

Do you and your car a favor and let Jerry Tucker check it out and give you a list of repairs you need to return the car to OEM original as new specifications.

The point of this is to give it more of the V8 rumble associated with said Mustangs, etc.

I looked under my car and it looks like there are:

2 pirimary mufflers2 catalystsCrossover1 rear muffler

If it is stock, it is dual throughout.

Mustangs are cheaper for that sound.
