Hello all - I didn't see a "newbie intro" so figured I'd post in here for some general "stuff" as well as introduce myself. . .you'll probably see me around quite a bit. . ..

I'm 24 and live in Jacksonville, AR. I've been into cars for about 4 years now and whore several boards, this being my newest.

My first car was a 92 Geo Storm and I loved it - put about 80 K on it in three years and eventually had to sell it after it started to catch on fire regularly. Right now I'm driving a 95 mustang but have started to look into imports a bit. . .

I've been looking into what I want to build up for my next car - I have tons of help/parts/knowledge on general imports available but wanted to get some information on the S13/S14s from y'all. . .

Basically I hang out with a bunch of import guys and drive a mustang. It's time for something different and new. . . And I REALLY like the sound of the BOV. . .

I'm going to spend the next few weeks/months looking for a S13/S14 5 speed with a 5 speed and a blown engine. We're planning a FULL build-up. . . no more than a grand on the base car, then between 3 and 5 on the motor. I have access to both a fully specialized speed shop (Polk's performance, to anyone who reads Mod Motor - check out Donal Polk's racing season!) and a full military garage with lifts. . .

So, with that said. . . .where can I find some general reading on the S13 / S14? I'm trying to start learning as much as I can ahead of time before the engine swap (planning mid summer). I'm also curious about suggestions for a CLEAN body kit for around a grand. . . . links are awesome (hint)

Oh, and anyone from around Arkansas, Texas, LA, etc. . . .check out http://www.import-driven.com. . . . it's a new club we're trying to get rolling (sorry if I'm not supposed to plug - basically just a diverse club of import-drivers that we're trying to get running - still less than 200 members, probably only about 30 active.)

Well, I will be one of the first to say welcome to NICO I guess,we used to have a very informative FAQ but got deleted for a very lame reason. As for the body kits, I started a thread about a month ago i think, ill bring back up to the top, lots and lots of links.

Yeah, I've got the FAQ printed on the engine types / HP and TQ ratings. . .

Just wanted to find some more out about the cars in general. . . I'm definately liking the RWD 4-banger with as much Hp and TQ as my stang (in base trim).

Anyone know the gear ratio for the 91-94 S13 or the S14?

I really don't know why I posted that about the body kit. . . I'm more interested in the build-up anyways, just wanted to see what potential the car has for a clean look. . . .

Just wanted to clarify that I'm not trying to become a ricer. . . .

Let's get started educating the newb the right way. . .

Consider me 240SX impaired - like a 4 year old. . .

Can someone explain the following terms:

1.) Silvia2.) Strawberry3.) overview of japan vs. U.S. versions of 240SX4.) GENERAL difficulties in swapping a SR20DET into the car. . . 5.) General upgrade potential of the sr20DET - what are the best "bang for buck" mods?

Well, I like body kits personally, just not the ricey ones like the blitz kit, and having those huge wings on there, but kits like bomex, c west, and others arent ricey in my opinion.

Silvia was made in japan. 240sx in the statesStrawberry- front end of and s15 silvia only made in japan. The cars were not made anymore after 1998 in the states. In japan they were made untill 2002(i think).s13 is 1989-1994s14 is 1995-1998s15 is 1999- currentIn america the 240 has a 2.4 liter motor Depending which model you get, it will be dohc or sohc. The older ones being sohc. (89-90) IN japan the silvia has a 2 liter turbo motor. Sr20det. Depending which motor you get will decide how much you pay, and how much hp you will get.s13 redtop 2200- 205 hps13 blacktop 2600- 205 hp (newer motor then redtop)s14 blacktop 3200- 220 hps15 blacktop 5000 - 250hpHardest part about the swap is the wiring. If you stick with what motor is supposed to be in the car, problems will be minimized. I havn't actually done a swap though, so i dont know all the problems.Sr is capable of around 400 hp on stock internals. When you get the motor you will be able to boost around 12 psi on stock everything with a boost controller. Next thing to upgrade will be the intercooler, you will want to buy a front mount. With a frount mount you will be able to get 14 psi out of motor. Then you will need to upgrade to bigger injectors. Then you will also need to upgrade the turbo. Some good sites to check out parts for the sr is http://www.enjukuracing.com, and http://www.phase2motortrend.com. That was a really quick overview, and there is more detailed information about any of the subjects that i talked about if you use the search button. good luck.

All that seems about right, cept i think the S15 ceased production in 2001, but we never got the beauty so it doesnt matter. Since you live in Arkansas, you might want to check with Daunttless, hes one of the moderators here and lives in Iowa, he has or plans ( i dunno which one dauntt ) to have a shop open, but he has really good prices on SR20s, conversions, and RBs.

No one has posted the final gear ratio yet. . . just kinda' curious on that. . . .

Thanks to the person that posted all the shizzy on the various ?s so far (those will be printed in the morning when the Jager isn't making me all re-tarded). . .

In terms of buying a donor. . . difference between the s13s by year? I saw a weight difference, just want more description of what was changed. . . .

So - back to the differences by year. . . .

Can someone point me in the direction of a FAQ with a little more meat than just engine specs? I'd like to start figuring out the differences in the various years. . . interior changes, exterior changes, etc. . . .

as far as the s13 s go the only difference that im aware of in the exterior is the bumper change form 90 to 91....so in other words...

the 89-90 240 is sohc, in 91 the front bumper is changed and the engine is changed to dohc, thats basicaly the only differences in the s13 s except for the convertibles that were only made in i think 94, and they were all automatics.

thats pretty much it, but correct me if im wrong anyone
