I've read one article about small problems with the 95 year model like AC seals failing and a brake fluid warning light that would short out and not light up when your fluid was low (was actually covered in a recall...) but I have never experienced any of those problems. The 95 is maybe a little more preferable due to the fact that it is OBD I (where as 96-98 were OBD II. not really a problem unless you want do do big power work to the engine)
-Standard model usually has less standard features, usually no fog lights and 4lug hubs, the se has fog lights, 5 lug hubs (more wheel selection, easier to do a 300zx brake swap on as well)ABS was an option on both models and included a viscous limited slip differential. so if you have abs, you have an LSD as well, if not, you get the one tire fire burnouts of an open diff SE models also come with a rear stabilizer (anti-roll) bar, base models don't
the KA24 is an awesome engine. with a turbo and proper tuning, it can easily hold 300+ horespower. it has a timing chain instead of a belt, so it should be maintenence free. Some of us hear our chains rattling due to 2 upper chain guides that need to be removed, but mine has been rattling slightly since i bought it 2 years ago and hasn't got any worse, and i am not easy on my engine.Just make sure it has been taken care of, and keep the oil changed regularly. I have found synthetic valvoline 10w30 to be a great oil, but many like mobile one, etc. etc.
other RWD cars to look for are RX-7's (FC's are pretty affordable) mkIII supras, miata
