Hi guys I hope some of you experts can help me.

I'm VERY new to stereo things and from what I read and figured... this is what I've gotten so far

If I was to get two 10 inch single-voice coil subwoofer with 400-watts peak and 120-watt continuous power so which makes it 800 watts peaks and 240-watts continuous.

I would need to get an amp for sure correct? Now, do I need to get an amp that will support 240-watts continously or an amp with at least 240watts peak?

would a 360-watts bridged @ 4 ohms (continuous power); 720 watts bridged @ 4 ohms (peak power) will work fine?

Please I am very new to this any help will be appreciated.

Also what is the difference in single-voice coil and double voice coil? Thank you.

The way to choose an amp is to match the rms on the amp with the rms of the speaker. You want the peak power of the amp not to exceed or be the same as the peak power of the speaker. So you will probably want a 2 channel amp that has an rms of 240 watts and peak of 800 watts. That is 120 rms and 400 peak per channel. But as I said you will probably want the peak of the amp to be lower than that of the speaker. So you won't blow the speaker.

The difference between the single and the dual, besides the fact that the svc has 1 voice coil and the dvc has 2, is that the dual can be hooked up 2 different ways for 2 different impedances (resistance measured in ohms). If you hook up the voice coils in parallel, you will have half of the resistance of one of the voice coils. If you hook up the voice coils in series, you will have the impedance of one voice coil times 2.

I'd much rather have some headroom than have just adequate power. Espically since we're talking about such low power here. He'll be much less likely to blow speakers with a more powerful amp (if he can listen for distortion)than with a smaller amp that will clip when he maxes it out and cause serious damage.

Its better to use an amp that puts out more than your subs' RMS because it won't have to work as hard pushing the subs to their limits. Its like this.......you want a fuel pump that barely gets by, or one that can pump more than your engine can use? As long as you can listen for audible distortion from your subs and turn it down a little when you hear it, you'll be fine.

Yes but on another post you said that you want the amp peak just below the sub peak. Did you not say that?

ok ok thanx guys I understand now :)

Do you think single 10inch sub with about 150rms is enough for fastback S13?

in my oppinion, what you should do is save up, and buy a bigger amp and better sub... go with an alpine type R 12" or something similar to that which handles at least 300W RMS...

I know for a fact that the type r's can handle 500W rms easily, so buy a 500W rms amp to go along with your 12" and people will hear you for sure...

remember that more subs isn't always better.. i mean my friend has a 15" that will out pound people with four 10"s... it all depends on both the quality of the subs as well as the amount of power you feed them...
