I currently own a '94 Q45, but am looking seriously at a '95 J30T.

Two quick questions... after reading through the forum, I thought the "T" was only made during the '93-'94 years. Am I missing something here?

Lastly, apart from the sticky post of "what to look for when buying a J30," does anyone have further advice on what I should be eyeballing? This particular car looks very, very nice. The only bad thing I've noticed at this point is a tremendous squeal when you start it up cold, which I am assuming is the serpentine belt.

Any advice/pointers/tips are greatly, greatly appreciated! :)

The Touring package was available all years, but one of the Touring components, HICAS, was only available in 1993-1994.

Cold squeal could be a bad pulley, bad tensioner, or simply a loose belt. Nothing too pricey.

If you can find a good J at a nice price, you'll fall in love with it.

Thank you for the info! One last question... I've hunted high and low, but can't find the tire size for a '95 J30. Can you direct me to a link or that info? thanks!

EDIT: More precisely, Will the tires/wheels of a '94 Q45 fit on a '95 J30? I'm finding conflicting information.

That remains to be seen. The Q has a few issues. I would need to replace the #6 injector, the power antenna is shot, the fuel pump needs to be replaced, there is a big wear/tear spot on the driver's seat, and the AC belt bracket needs to be replaced. But it is a fine, fine, FINE car, and I love it.

I've really been torn between getting a new car or just putting the bucks into this one, because I dearly love that Q. We'll see what they offer, and we'll see how the test drive of the J goes.

Having driven both first gen Q and a J3O, The Q will be faster, compared to a J it has much better low end torque, it was engineered to be a performance flagship luxury sedan. The J on the other hand is personal luxury touring sedan. Its not quick like a Q45 and its heavy. However a HICAS package equipped J30t will out handle a Q45. Take a J for a good test drive and see if you like it.

The 95 j30 we race was equipped with t badges, I guess all this means is slightly stronger springs in 1995.

Get the J30 and skip 5 years of car payments.

It sounds like you're going to a dealership for a trade in and I suspect the offer for the Q is going to be far below your expectations. I hope I'm wrong but... The antenna is a simple DIY repair and there's plenty of used ones available in the parts forum. Fuel pump replacement is an easy DIY with a little help lifting the rear seats and AC bracket replacement is a 1 hour job in a shop and you can supply the bracket purchased at a discount from our sponsor, IOS. There's writeups in the Q45 forum about replacing seat cushions once you find a good one but a nice looking cover will work in the meantime. Injector replacement is your only real issue and if you're even a little mechanically inclined and have basic tools it's not rocket science to pull the plenum to replace an injector. It will be expensive if you're having it done in a shop. There's many write ups in the Q45 forum on this also.

From your avatar photo your Q looks like a nice car and you like it. If you can swing it keep her and get the J30 as a stablemate. Good luck.

Thanks for the input, all... I may end up keeping my Q, after all. But I am looking forward to testing the J tomorrow. It will be interesting!!!
