Hi all, I am a new member, and most probably this is not first time question. I was wondering, what harm can be done to the engine when the RPM hits 5000 when I have only 800 miles on the car. Did I screw the engine

ThanksRaz

BTW, My car is 2007 Sport G35 Coupe 6 MT.

I am with soul. No worries. I hit redline regularly since day 1.

I don't believe the brake in period. I think it was true with the older generation cars but not with the new ones.

Thanks guys, btw, about this oil change on 1k mark, I asked my mechanic, who I trust, he sad do not touch the oil till 3 to 4 k mark, thats a special break in oil. after that we'll use Mobil 1 or other synthetic oil.

If I can take mine to the track and run the hell out of it with less than a 1000 miles you will be just fine!

I have 5k now and haven't seen any smoke billowing out.

Most cars worth their weight in used toilet paper will handle many things the average driver will throw at them EVEN IN THE FIRST 1000 MILES as they are over engineered to a degree.But.... by all means DO change your oil after 1k (never heard about "special break in oil" before) and keep the oil changes a regular event.

This also does not mean you should generally abuse your car and drive it into the ground with only an oil change every so often, but you get the idea.... don't be overly paranoid just because you got it up to 5 grand.

According to Infiniti, you should change the initial oil at around 1.2k. This clears out any metal crap from the initial startup. Oil is cheap...and it's an easy job. Buy some ramps and do it yourself!

I would also recommend changing the oil again at 2.5k, then every 4-5k after. The use of synthetic isn't necessary, but I swear by royal purple products!!
