I've been lurking on the board for a while and until now have not needed to post anything. First let me say that I have learned a great deal and appreciate the wisdom shared.
To the point! I own a 2001 Qx4 with about 100,000 miles. It's in pretty good shape and I love the vehicle. The SES light came on the other day and I brought it to O'Reiley's so I could "pull the codes" which I now know to do. I got 1145 twice, which I have learned is the VTC sensor, a relatively common problem. I have read all of the post I can find on this as to educate myself on the issue.
Here are my problems: 1. I would like to do the work myself but I am not sure where I can buy the sensors. 2. I am not sure how to do the work, although I have seen that it is supposedly.
The mechanic quoted me $400 for the job, which seems a bit steep according to the posts I have read. Some direction would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
