Howdy! Bought first Infiniti [95 Q45t] a few weeks ago. Drove car home about 600 miles with great satisfaction. However, after car parked for a week, no start. The "security" idiot light is flashing yellow - even when vehicle turned off. Don't have an owner's manual [hazard of eBay purchases] so not sure if the idiot light, or whatever it may be indicating, is causing an open circuit [light bulb left on?] that is draining battery. Charged the battery and the car runs without problem. Seems like this should be easily diagnosed, but I am just a clueless NEWB. Any suggestions short of expensive dealer visit?

Thanks.

I have a similar problem with my 96. The security light is supposed to go out after 30 seconds or so. I believe if it keeps flashing then you have an open circuit in the security system. Hood switch, trunk door etc. I thought this was draining my battery but if you search for my post and the responses I got people seemed to think it would not be enough of a drain to kill the battery in a week. I don't care about the secuity system too much so I haven't persued the answer.

One thing I noticed (and I"m not even sure if this is this is the cause) was that the CD changer is the trunk was making a noise with the car in the off position. I think it was trying to eject the tray. Since then I always keep the tray ejected and I have not had the battery go down since. Of course it is warmer too. Take with a grain of salt, I have no proof that this had any effect on my problem.

Welcome to NICO!!

Check fuses and try disconnecting the battery overnight -- typical electrical troubleshooting for the Q. Someone else should be able to offer more specific advice.

Most likely it is the hood switch.. Common failure, theres a little thing on top of it that wears down, and the system things that the hood isnt shut all the way..

its not enough to drain the battery.. Theres always a little drain, to keep things active like the CD changer, BCM, and so forth...

My CD changer was malfunctioning doing some kind of cycle over and over and over until I ejected the tray. When I put it back in it stopped. It was not doing this when I was testing the drain with a meter so it must be a sporadic problem. Like I said, I always eject it when it is not in use now and I haven't had any more problems.

I tried testing the BCM per the FSM to try and locate the security system problem but didn't have any luck, all tested ok from the BCM. The security light must have burned out because it quit flashing and the system still doesn't arm. Out of sight out of mind I guess.

Here's a link to Infiniti Publications where you can download the manual from a 1996 Q (as far back as they go) - but the cars should be similar enough...

Good luck!
