Newbie needs advice.... LSD?

I first tried doing a search... but came up with an outrageous number of posts.... can't sift thru them all....

can someone direct me... or explain to me what exactly Limited Slip Differentials (LSD) are? and what models would have them?

i have to admit... my knowledge of cars is somewhat slighted.... and LSD is something new to me..... I'd love any help, thanks!
