Hey all. I am looking to get an engine that I can build up and not hit the top potential too quickly. Currently I have a 1995 Ford Thunderbird SC (stop laughing). Personally I really love the car, but the engine just doesn’t have the potential that I am looking for. I could get it to around 450hp maybe 500hp, but that is with major internal and external mods which I don’t mind doing, but then that is the max for the engine. Another option was to go with a 460BB stroked to 598ci which actually would fit under the hood, but that is a large expensive project. I had looked at the RB26DETT before, but at the time it just wasn't feasible. So here I am again. I have thought about importing a Skyline, but they do not pass our safety regulations (Ontario, Canada) so I would have to get an R32 (15 years old); so I am not sure with that side of the project yet. Right now I would like to get the engine side of the project going, so for now, I need information, and would love to hear from anybody who has anything to say please.

What do I have ahead of me with costs, parts availability? What are some of the good combinations for engine mods, turbos, bolt-ons? What numbers (HP, Torque) could I expect with said combinations? What are the differences in generations of the RB26DETT engine?

Any information would be helpful and most appreciated.

Thanks all.

Kirk

My friend you have the flashing Red SEARCH Button ahead of you.

All the info is out here, but you need to look around. Start by reading the stickies at the top comparing the RB engines. That will give you a better understanding of the RB26 and a good foundation to start searching.

I would also buy a R32 GT-R, the only real Skyline!

My friend got a 91 and that´s one amazing car, most of the body is lightweight aluminum and the rest of the car just screams racing.

With 450 hp (easy to get) you got a fast car with 4WD or 90% RWD, whatever you like, perfect for drifting, trackdays, drag or just highway.

One last thing, that engine + 3.5" exhaust and redline... No words...

First off, thanks all for replying. I have also posted on a couple of other forums (no names) and no one would even bother to respond to the new guy.

I am feeling a little iffy about the R32 though. I love the look of the R34's, and would always be looking at them sighing wishing I could have that. Does anyone know it the fronts and rears from an R34 even come close to fitting on an R32.

I don't know if I would say plenty of options, but yes I can get an R32. I guess I am just trying to make sure that whichever path I take, I don't want to look back and say "Damn! Should've gone that way". I know it will happen, it always does, but I would like to minimize the severity. Still lot's to think about.

How durable are the transmission's? To what hp can they still be reliable to?

I'm pretty sure that if you were to purchase a R32 Skyline, you wouldn't be looking back regretting the decision.

Of course, the R34 is better looking but the R32 is much more extreme, often faster because weight and lower price = more money to mods!

There is only one Godzilla! You will never regret buying a car like that.
